Shed Burgled on Wood Vale

Our shed was locked with a padlock, but burgled last night. Two red boys bikes stolen, Wood Vale, on the nature trail. Please keep your valuables safe and secure.

Have you reported it to the police?

I ask because, I understand two bikes plus a tandem were found early on Friday morning. They had been dropped over the fence into the Horniman grounds. The bikes are with the police. Hope they're yours.

I had my bike stolen from my front garden wed lunchtime on Melford Rd.

I recently put a note on here about getting wood vale residents together somehow. I have had lovely messages from some, and we are starting to meet, but I do wonder whether there is more merit in a residents group now. We could perhaps start talking to the horniman about improving security on the nature trail, and working together on improved fencing etc. The police will also visit to advise on specific security issues.

And if any opportunistic burgulars are reading this for ideas, this road and the trail is now being closely watched by the police. You are more likely to get caught now than ever. so do us a favour, and don't steal our children's toys and bikes.

We're going to claim it tomorrow and hope it's not totally trashed. Such a mindless act - I assume riding a tandem was too complex for these idiots to work out so they had to dump it.

I think we need to lobby the Horniman to increase security when the nature trail is closed - better burglar proof fencing and maybe some thick prickly planting could help deter opportunistic thieves.

Thank you for your messages. The police are coming around and yes, they have found the two bikes, dumped on the nature trail. I think the bikes were too heavy to carry and with flat tyres, impossible to ride away, so thank you Tom for posting your message. I will collect them tomorrow. The East Dulwich Forum is brilliant.....

Yes, Sara, let me know when a meeting is arranged to discuss security on the nature trail. Its never been an issue before, but I think its worth alerting the police that this is a vulnerable area.

The police have been very helpful and got the bikes back from Catford. Safer Neighbourhood team will be contacted regarding a visit to Wood Vale and security on the nature trail.

Excellent news that all the bikes have been re-united with their owners. Incidentally, who found them? The Horniman Garden keepers etc? Might be worth dropping them off a box of sweeties or something to say thanks.
