petting zoo nearby?

Does anyone know of anyplace that is fairly close by that has animals for kids to look at/feed/touch and possibly pony rides etc?

We have recently been to both Vauxhall and Spitalfields city farms and would recommend both - our little girl loved them both

If you are closer to Forest Hill Station then Spitalfields possibly easier to get to on the Overground, but Vauxhall technically closer and easy on the 185 bus - just get off after Oval Station

Christmas Tree farm in Kent not a million miles away from Bromley. Can feed farm animals but sadly no pony rides.

Have a look at the website for Battersea Zoo. Not sure when it opens and starts it's activities for the summer (summer? ha!) but it makes a great day out for young children.

Theres a zoo (farm really) at Crystal Palace. Haven't been as it was closed when we tried - but its open in the afternoons (except Wed). Think the proper opening times are on the web. Easy parking plus can be combined with a trip to see the dinasaurs.

Crystal Palace park has a mini farm. Open from 12-4pm each day. YOu can't feed them, but it is local, free and friendly.

I'd second Surrey Dock's Farm! You can feed goats etc and sometimes at the weekend there are donkey rides (call them to find out when). Also, a room is available to hire for birthday parties etc.

Both mudchute and Surrey docks farms have fantastic cafes, mudchute's is bigger so make sure you treat yourselves there!

We love surrey docks farm. They have cows, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, ferrets, chickens, ducks and donkey. If the yard looks a bit empty pop your head in the barn and you'll see the new lambs and kids. Also direct access to the river so you can watch the boats go by. The cafe is brill.
