Good luck to Iceland - cheapish prices and very friendly staff that seem to enjoy working there. They've been told it will probably be September when they'll go that's if they don't win the planning decision.Don't worry indebted newbies you will get your middle class ghetto - piece by piece as no ordinary folk can afford to live here anymore.

I really don't understand how people can not understand that the importance of the application is not whether it is an M&S, a waitrose or a bloomin' McDs it's the application in itself to significantly change the overall size of the building and the implications/impact such development will have on the surrounding areas - residents!

I'd be extremely concerned if the application was approved simply on the basis of the type of company was applying for it!

davidh,

How does informed objection to the detail of a planning application make kk a 'flat-earther'? As underlined by kk, the objection is not to M&S per se but to the total planning application and the impact this will have on those living closest to it.

What's your evidence for this?

Carried out a referendum, have you?

Get's my vote too. If you don't want shops and are worried about parking spaces, then don't live near Lordship Lane. It's quite simple. Same as those people who buy a house near a pub and then complain about noise and people drinking.

Yes, but suppose some planners come along with a proposal not only to change the brewery but to enlarge the footprint of that pub and build 8 new flats on top of it and extend the licensing hours so that it can now open into the early hours.

Those living close to the pub are understandably concerned, but those further away can only focus on the fact that the new bewery will be selling guzzlegut5x and some of their other fave beers. Do you see the difference?

Today, I spoken with one of the Iceland management and heard some interesting news.

Apparently, Iceland has taken out an injunction because they felt they offered a fair price for their lease but M&S has offered a further 10% on top of theirs. Iceland was due to close down in June but because of the court case they will be open until September at least. It seems Iceland is battling to stay as the store is still making money. Iceland have no plans to enlarge their store because a similar proposal was turned down quite some time ago.

DavidH has mentioned the term flatliners implying that M&S is progress. But for some people like my good self, M&S represents a backward step in terms of quality and taste. Everything is relative I suppose! Mind the gap.

    • You'd need to get a proper quote (or three) for instance removing a cast iron bath is a very different job from removing an acrylic one. Again what pipe work will be being joined into - matching old imperial pipes with modern metric ones is different from like to like, as is dealing with a copper or an iron distribution system. The amount (area) of retiling required is an issue, as will be the state of the wall behind the tiles. It may of course all be very plain sailing, or not. Have a first look at plumber recommendations on the relevant pages on this site. If it's all easy then 3 days work may be sufficient. But it could be a week if there are snags.
    • Hi. Can anyone suggest a plumber for the job below? Replace bath tub with a shower enclosure, putting pipes to showerhead behind wall, re-titling damaged/removed tiles Also any idea of the costs involved for the labour as we will buy the items required?
    • Aria came round to fix my tub drain when I'd messed up the seal. Came within hours, fixed the tub, and ran a bath to make sure it was okay. Here's where the fun starts. While he was over, I asked him questions about the rest of the plumbing round the house. I had just moved into a Victorian home that was previously being rented. Unsurprisingly, we found another leak in the tub and a drip in the kitchen tap.  He came back the next day to put a better pipe in my bathtub and replace the kitchen sink. Painstakingly figured out how to replace the hard-to-access kitchen sink without cutting through the wood panel with the help of his builder friend, Mark. Answered all my questions and clearly knew his stuff. All this right before Christmas holidays!
