Ah yes.. My prediction on June 20th.. Four days before the match. That one?

It's not my fault that, despite my lack of a 'footballing brain', I got it right just by watching all the preceding matches and coming the a very obvious conclusion, whereas you - painfully - had us beating the very team who might go all the way.

I guess this explains why some people need a line manager, and others don't.

Let's not forget that in my welter of mis-prognostications I also predicted an Italian victory (albeit using fallacious retroactive schoolboy reverse psychology)...

...so if you were to ask me I would say that - given the relative sizes of the debt crisis in each country - and the amount earned by the average Italian footballer (as a result of their recent corruption scandal) against the amount earned by the average Spanish footballer (benefiting from ludicrous tax breaks and their clubs massive debts) - I would have to say that 120mins followed by penalties would give betfair and paddy power the most money-making opportunities either team a chance to come out victors.

But I know you want a real forecast so I predict that the Italians will score too early (any time in the first 60mins) meaning the Spaniards will scrap plan A and bring on a striker (Torres?) who will win the game for them. B)

Right about what? You've made no prediction as it didn't involve any analysis whatsoever. No kudos to you, I'm afraid, on the basis that you simply made a wild guess.

I remember when Newcastle played Luton Town in a FA cup tie during the 90s. David Pleat, who was managing Luton, appeared on Andy Gray boot room show and he recorded his tactics ahead of the game. After the game, the show revealed David's tactics and level of analysis regarding pitch and players. So yes, you can conduct a pre-match analysis.

I don't really care who wins tonight just as long as we're entertained. I have a hope though that we've gone out to the winners and so I'm kinda hoping for a superb performance from Super Mario and Crazy Cassano and an Italian win. 2-1 Italy. There! That's my prediction. I could be wrong I could be right. Forza Italia!

Spain were pure class and it was great to see a team win in style rather than a tense stalemate settled by penalties.

And as another one-off-tournament-thread draws to a close it's time to reflect on the glories we have seen and ask those questions that we have all been left wondering...

like, entertaining as it was for us footyfiles, was it really necessary to show the final on BBC AND ITV?

And why was ITV's feed some 3 seconds behind the Beeb's? Any live-broadcasting experts (*pauses to allow UDT to step forward) care to enlighten me?

wheres that falangist bastard Pibe when you need a comment ?

Anyway

Well done Spain - easily outclassed Italy - a new improved Italy I must say - little of the cynicism so typified by Italy of yore. I know that everyone is ED has Brazil as their second team, but this Spainish lot do seem to have the ability to delight and astonish - not many 4-0 kickings in tournamants these days.

Rooney was man of the tournament blates.

I loved Del Bosque's dig at, well pretty much everyone, but England particularly should take note.

"They know how to play together because they come from a country where they learn to play properly. This is a great era for Spanish football."

btw Del Bosque has often had pretty savage treatment at the hands of the press in Spain, so this is a great vindication for him too. The sporting press in Spain are every bit as inconsistent, vindictive and idiotic as our own dear one.

Ah, one of your great post match predictions *Bob*! Anyway, you may not know that Italy was a man short in the second half which led to four nil scoreline.

Now for the people who really understands football. Spain was much sharper and incisive in their passes. Italy's midfield was smothered by the sheer number of Spanish midfielders and weren't able to deal with the situation tactically. Pirlo was closed down quickly. Jordi Alba was impressive with his deep runs.

    • Hi all, Wondering if anyone else in/around SE22 is also having the unfortunate luck of having Evri parcels delivered by a very rude individual? Whenever we have parcels delivered, our front gate is being slammed open and closed, ring doorbell is harshly banged (not pressed) followed by simultaneously banging on the door knocker and slamming the letter box multiple times. Someone is normally home by the time they come in the evening and never has to wait long for an answer. If we’re not home, we speak to them on the doorbell so we do find the actions of this individual unreasonable and rude.  We have tried a couple of times politely asking that they not do this but they are very dismissive and gives a passive-aggressive “have a nice day” reply.  Has anyone been able to contact Evri and successfully had any issues similar to this resolved? We have enough evidence through our doorbell footage but we are lost with what else we can do. We’ve tried asking politely but don’t want our gate or door damaged by someone who simply doesn’t care and lacks basic manners.    If anyone else is having this issue or has any advice on how we can report this, it would be much appreciated. After another dismissive reply to my concern this afternoon, I will be calling Evri tomorrow to raise a complaint. I have lost my patience with them
    • Corbyn was unelectable - he got trashed by Boris who was a buffoon. It was a good job too because I would have hated to see Corbyn and his rag-tag bunch of far-left university politics backbenchers try to lead the country through Covid.  It is completely understandable why Starmer and the Labour Party want to purge Momentum from within their ranks and Cllr McAsh has fallen victim of that.
