There seems to be a new trend in the upper parts of illuminating new developments at night. One of our neighbours rear elevation looks like a 1973 Genesis set with blue lights illuminating their garden evein in the early hours.

It appears to be self indulgent nonsense but maybe not an issue for local council/neighbourhood police etc.

You could of cause argue that it is not doing any harm, but I think it spoils the area. The relationship is not good so not one I was going to sort out through direct dialogue.

Perhaps you are the person illuminating South London so may wish to give your opinion.

Serious suggestions please. I have considered fighting back with a laser, spot lighting, illuminated signs etc but that is all a bit silly.

Every time I look out of the rear windows, or go into my back gardens all I can see is blue light, as well as visual it feels imposing and over lookee. What I did not explain is these properties tower over the rest of the area being on high ground.

I find it strange that the owners are quite happy to illuminate their own land, yet not bothered that a dozen other properties have this vista.

So judging by your response giggirl I should in deed get a bank of lasers and retaliate! I will be implementing my own free right to do similar!

Malumbu, it's tricky to know what to suggest if you already have a difficult relationship with the neighbour. Is there anything you can do to improve the relationship - offer to help them with something, ask them around for a drink - so that a friendly chat becomes possible and they have enough of a sense of obligation to at least consider your point of view? They may not be aware that it's bothering other people and perhaps you could come to an amicable agreement that they switch it off at 11pm?

Where on earth are you getting that from? That's a huge leap to make. What I posted is that I don't understand your problem. I didn't pass judgement; I didn't say get a life - I merely said that I don't understand. If I saw it for myself I might think it was horrendous, but all we've got to go on is what you posted.

I doubt there is anything you can do about it. You might want to try and repair your relationship with your neighbours because it doesn't help to fall out with people who you have to live in close proximity with. They aren't doing anything wrong, they're just doing something you don't like. So perhaps build some bridges and open a dialogue.
