Callie
I was thinking of getting a chest of drawers from Ikea & I read they should be screwed to the wall. Just wondered if someone knows if this is absolutely necessary, as I don't really want to be making holes in wall. Do they fall over/apart easily if not secured to wall or is it just a safety thing? Thanks. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24073-question-about-ikea-chest-of-drawers/ Share on other sites
japseylarue
It's a safety thing. If the drawer unit is tall it can topple forward unless it's attached to the wall. If the drawers are full and heavy when they are pulled open they unbalance the unit.Just make sure to only open one drawer at a time. Hope this helps. Salsaboy
Ikea do supply a strap thing for securing to the wall, but I've never used it. Always thought that the drawers are heavy enough not to topple over. matthew123
Putting heavier items in the bottom draws may help stability. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24073-question-about-ikea-chest-of-drawers/#findComment-554828 Share on other sites
Mutrik
Hi. The safety strap is mainly there if you have young kids that may climb on furniture which may then tip over, that's why they need to be secured to the wall. No kids - no need to secure! reetpetite
I have a tall narrow ikea chest of drawers very sturdy and too heavy to topple over.
