"Rihanna has wrapped up BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend with a headline performance which featured a stage design inspired by ancient Egypt, spectacular fireworks and a guest performance from Jay-Z.

Beyonce, Jessie J and Tinie Tempah were among 50,000 fans to watch the Bajan star's 65-minute set close a weekend of live music at Hackney Marshes.

It climaxed with Jay-Z reciprocating Rihanna's cameo during his headline slot on Saturday, as he joined her for an encore of Run This Town, Talk That Talk and Umbrella.

Speaking from the stage, shortly before finishing, Rihanna said: "This is history in the making."

Radio 4 is currently running a series called The New Elizabethans.

"60 profiles of men and women whose actions during the reign of Elizabeth II have had a significant impact on lives in these islands and given the age its character, for better or worse."

Simon Cowell does indeed makes the list as does Barabara Windsor.

I was thinking the same Loz, but I suppose they could argue most of the work he was known for was from before the coronation, he died two years later. Churchill also not on the list for similar reasons I would imagine.

I would have found room for *Sir Clive Sinclair, for turning a generation of kids onto computing and JK Rowling for keeping the next generation reading.

*maybe I'm still trying to justify buying a Sinclair QL though.

Isn't this kind of thing usually the province of the Mail-On-Sunday?

    • Paul's on lordship lane is a good place for garden plants.  He is based near the old harvester on the opposite side of the road he offers good advice on which plants will grow in different positions etc.
    • I've read this thread and made notes! So many useful tips! Would anyone have a recommendation for  a place that sells good quality topsoil that would also be able to drop from a tipper? 10 cubic meters minimum. Thanks in advance and any further advice on garden centres with good selection of shrubs/climbers would be welcome, I plan to visit them all. Garden is fully dug up with drainage just put in.
    • I reccomend Crab Salad-I used to have my hair cut by the owner when he was at Blue tit in Peckham...I moved with him to Cs when he opened it. I've had other stylists there when he was'nt available on the date I could make and they're all excellent. Its a nice vibe too-just very relaxed not too 'hairdressery' (If you know what I mean) and I've reccomended it to neighbours and colleages who've all been very happy. Its not the cheapest but nor is it super pricey and they use good products too.
