Fish and chips

Slightly further afield, the place on Vestry Road was recently reopened under new owners. I've been there a few times and have really enjoyed it. Everything cooked to order. Only minor complaint is they leave the skin on the fish. I've tried most of the places mentioned on this thread and this is as good as any of them.

If ya want to experience quality fish and chips I would recommend Kens in Dulwich Village or Fladda in Camberwell but to be honest I think for me Fladda just tops it.

Kens has my vote and he put curry sauce on the menu about a year ago. When I first came to london 30y ago, curry sauce in a chippy was extremely rare.

Sainsburys do jars of 'chinese style curry sauce' which is very good if you don't fancy paying ?1.50 a portion.

Had fantastic fish, chips and peas at the Bread of Life caf? at Christ Church Barry Road, last week. ?7.90 to eat in, but they also do takeaway. Caf? currently open 10 - 3 pm Monday - Fridays.

Emily's Plaice still my favourite - North Cross Road opposite the Actress, close to Crystal Palace Rd. The one near Goose Green playground also very good by all accounts.

Another vote for Emily's Plaice. Kens is good too, but much of a muchness really.

A bit further afield, Masters between Waterloo and Elephant & Castle is outstanding as many a black cab driver will vouch.

Another vote for Deep Sea on Vestry Road. Really lovely chips and mushy peas - I'm afraid I cannot comment on the fish as I'm a veggie.

Have had a couple of deliveries from Kens recently and they have upped their game recently. The two brothers on lordship lane is best value in dulwich imo though.
