Hi, I'm a Volunteer for Macmillan at Kings. We have an Open Day at the Hospital coming up and I was wondering if anyone had boxes or packets of sweets that they don't need that we can give to the children - I've tried some of the local supermarkets but they're not particularly forthcoming, anything will be appreciated. Thanks

Thank you TillieTrotter they can be dropped off at The Macmillan Centre Cecily Saunders Institute in Kings or I could drive to you and pick them up. I'll put up some details for the open day - everyone is welcome.

I can't help wondering what the aim of the open day is .... to open people/childrens eyes to job opportunities in the NHS maybe ?

It seems a lot of additional work for already busy people .

And Kings advertising themselves with the " As seen on A&E " reference TV series .

Is that in case people don't know what the hospital is ?

    • Other posters are entitled to their views and there will inevitably be opposing views, that is the beauty of the forum.   The issue for many of us is that year on year we would prefer that a large and popular section of the park is not taken out of use for weeks on end, does not have to undergo significant remedial work each time or undergo unnecessary tree lopping to accommodate event structures,  and does not have its ornamental aspect impacted at the height of summer, when all of us would like to enjoy it. If the impact of the event was literally only for three days, that would be different. As it is, we are talking weeks and months. There is also the question of long-term impact on substructure and wildlife, who knows... Many thanks to Peckham Rose for raising matters with the event organisers and Southwark Council events.
    • Greg built me a utility cupboard and some extra shelving in a wardrobe. He was quick to respond and good at communicating. He easily understood what I was wanted and had some ideas to make it even better. The quality of the work is high and the cost was reasonable. Would recommend.
    • Looking at those fixtures I realise how little I follow international football.
    • Who knows what the motivations might be? Thought your comment about 2012 membership has, therefore, no relevance at all. The way I view all of your comments actually. 🤓
