It is true that much of the food is reduced because the use by date is current or has just 1 day to go.

As for loose veg which is not dated.. who knows ??

Fox..

Well I do use the Co-op when I am desperate... Not very often.

I mainly use the Co-op to pay my Utilities Bills.

.. But I like fresh food so I go elsewhere where food IS fresher AND cheaper.

Why pay More for Less..

The Co-op is as sad excuse for a shop. With poor quality food.

I have stopped buying Meat there. I do not even own a dog.

Fox. Not actually a Fox.

To be fair the whole place has needed a refit since Somerfield scrapped the deli and wet fish counters in favour of what was meant to be an 'in store bakery' (trans: an oven to warm factory made bread so the smell will make people buy it).

I like a lot of the Co-op brand stuff (including their pasta and fair-trade chocolate) and I like their sourcing in a lot of areas, but the place is well overdue a facelift.

xxxxxxx

The Co-op is extremely good value for some things, eg their own brand Value porridge oats and oatcakes, and frozen veg.

Fox, obviously you are likely to get better stuff if you go to a butcher for meat and a greengrocer for fruit and veg, but it is also sometimes more convenient to get everything in one place.

Edited for typo.

I hardly ever go to a Butchers (especially William Rose) Buy on Sat for Sunday only to find it has

gone off despite being put in the fridge withing 5-10 mins of purchase.

I use mainly ASDA. Meat there is very good and cheaper than the other main Supermarkets..

Tend to eat mostly Frozen Veg. Better that most 'Fresh' ??? Veg.

Fox.

    • I think there's a lot in what you say. Although bi election results aren't usually indicative of GE results, I was horrified to see Reform support was so high in what had previously been a Labour stronghold, Labour and Conservative results reflecting the tired old parties they are.  It isn't our generation (sorry @Sue if I'm being presumptuous!) that will decide the outcome of elections but those in their 20s, 30s, 40s ... if they can be bothered to vote. The Greens and Reform now present a real choice instead of two centrist main parties of the last 30 years which has put people off voting. Perhaps locally I will continue to vote Labour, i really couldn't bear for the LibDems to return and we have to consider the demographic of the whole of Southwark. But come the GE I will probably vote Green.
    • I agree but in the case of McAsh, that would just have left his constituents without a councillor for 3 months until the May elections. MPs switching parties is really galling. If an MP is suspended for law breaking etc., then a recall petition can be issued and, if enough of the constituents support it, a by-election is called. I think the same should apply for defectors.
