Thoroughly looking forward to it. Kind of understand how people who don't get sport (but I don't understand them) are moaning but FFs it's a fantastic global event that we haven't hoasted for 50 years and we'll do a good job. Really is bah humbug crap people monaing about how it will make their journey into work a bit shit. Miserable foookers.

I'm with marmora and quids on this one. How many thousands of people, especially kids will carry the memory for their whole lives. It may not be your bag and that's fair enough but it's curmudgeonly to deny others

There are good reasons to to dislike the circus around it (heavy handed handling of "brands") for example but the number of hours one normally works ain't one of them (you hate the long hours you work? Blame the job. You love the hours and the job? Congratulations you are in a lucky minority. Suck it up for a few weeks)

Money could be spent in better causes? But of course. Always was the case and always will be the case. Fair play to anyone dedicated to less fortunate, and keep fighting for more money. But to single out the Olympics as a reason for not having enough? Doesn't compute.

Some people on here aren't interested and as I say, fair enough. Plenty other things in this fair city to occupy everyone and anyone

Others in here are implying they shouldn't even be happening (or at least would be happier if they weren't happening ). Because of "the disruption".

Which proves my point!

If you're at your desk at 6.30am how the hell are the Olympics going to affect your journey to work? You'll be passing through London Bridge at 6am. I doubt you'll even notice any difference let alone it being "absolute bloody nightmare."

No it doesn't prove your point at all. I drive to work and back and there are all sorts of restrictions being implemented on the roads around here, affecting my route. In fact, our facilities guys are due to send out an update to all staff on the transport/parking issues we're due to face. My job involved visits from the Wharf into the City and back, at least 4/5 times per week. If you honestly think I'll have no disruption to my journey during the Olympics then you're seriously deluded.

Near the Strand they have changed the direction of the underpass. There are 2 lanes coming south- one is a bus lane and one has got Olympic rings painted on it. Where is everyone else going to go? The Greenwich Planetarium is now closed until the Olympics are over. It appears there is no escape...

If fact I'm getting a bit fed up with some of the Ar**h*les on hear who bully any one who doesnt fit into their narrow definition of conformity.

As it goes most of the actual nitty gritty of the Olympics doesn't exactly fizz my bunghole. I'm never going to get excited watching badminton or horse trials or pistol shooting.

There are ususally some great moments produced of courage in adversity or glorious failure, emotion or simply outstanding athletic achievement however and its a hard heart that is utterly unstirred by these.

Also in this world of shallow celebrity and outrageous remuneration whether it be for banking or kicking a leather ball, it's great to see those dedicated unsung joe schmos have their spotlight moment and a reward for all their personal dedication and financial and emotional commitment for those who have supported them.

And it is a moment where the world will focus on our fair city and bring millions to spend and enjoy our hospitality.

So the trains might be a bit more of a pain than they already are for a month, look at me and my very small violin, come on cheer up people.

    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
    • I made sure to set off a few today just to rile you guys up 😇😂 Always looking for something to criticise
    • Ugly...maybe..does it bother me..NO! I think its somehow reassuring to see theres still phoneboxes around. East Dulwich may  be getrified but there may well be some elderly people who don't have mobiles and kids who may have lost theirs adults ditto etc etc. I'd rather keep it than lose it...just because i don't use it does'nt mean its not needed.  there are many eyesores in the modern world not all of them as potentially useful.
    • I strongly recommend Balayage salon in Lordship lane as everytime I visit, they make me feel very spicial with thier profisionalism and care.   I have been going there for the last 10 years maybe more, and will never exchange them for any other. They are profisional, welcoming and they also always have an offer. I feel like a new woman every time. X
