warning of a young man 15 - 19 years with a toddler knocking on doors in copleston road

trinidad

Recommended Posts

just a warning, a young man is knocking on street doors on the copleston road, quiet spoken and dragging a toddler around with him. he has a sponsorship form on him and mentioned sponsoring the toddler from his school.

Far too cold for this sort of thing, and i thought the schools were closed - seems like a scam to me but concerned vulnerable residents maybe taken in!!!!

If you haven't already, please report this to the MET. It's possible that nothing is wrong but due to the age of the child and the fact you found it strange it's worth a report even if it just goes down as intel.

You can report it here

https://www.met.police.uk/contact/af/contact-us/contact-us-to-discuss-something-else/

Try to be as descriptive as possible, if you can't remember any aspect skip it...

1. skin colour

2. sex

3. age

4. height - use between heights or ?about 5?8? rather than a precise

height

5. build

6. hairstyle and colour

7. complexion

8. distinguishing features, eg tattoos, scars, beard, etc and include if

they wore spectacles

9. clothing (from top to bottom)

10. carrying anything.

11. Accent

Yes , this needs to be reported, this could be a very vulnerable/ trafficked child - I know it's too late now, but if it happens again then it would be reasonable to report to the Police immediately - if you are not sure then you can always ring the NSPCC and talk it through with them and get advice ( 0808 800 5000)

You can't underestimate how much some young children are at risk

We had the same callers as trinidad, on the same day. The older lad said the kid was doing a sponsored jump and I thought he was far too young to skydive, but it all stacks up now. They seemed nice enough and it may be legitimate, but I agree that door-to-door collecting isn't the best approach.

we had a woman and a lad knock with the jump story about 2 months ago. It must be successful if they are still doing the rounds...just thought it was a scam and didn't donate because people usually get the money from relatives or teachers in my experience- if it's legit!

They came to us too.

The child looked about 7, maybe a little younger.

I didn't give them anything, mainly as it didn't seem right and I probably should have probed but was just arriving home and was dealing with my daughter who was trying to manage the situation (should not have opened the door)

Is it an organisation connected to @Southwark Council - if so, can we please have more information?
    • This is the chart that the DFT published last week that triggered the Cycling Weekly article. Clearly, nationally, something isn't working and I wonder if the approach taken needs a complete rethink and overhaul as if this is the result of a £2bn investment then clearly it is not delivering any ROI - but isn't a 2% or so increase what has been seen in the City of London (per Carlton Reid's "More bikes than cars in the city now" article) so maybe this is consistent in cities too and 2% increase is all that anywhere has seen?
