"just yesterday I received a free spanner in the post after I complained to the manufacturer that they changed the spanner's finish from satin chrome to polished chrome."

Gold, pure gold.

DC has nailed it. I do learn new things pretty and often my approach to life means that I interact with genuine people in the know. I've also been fortunate in working for an organisation that dealt with issues such as housing, planning, education, resilience, business, crime & drugs, children services, sustainability, transport with links to 12 central government and Number 10. Managing partnerships with GLA, London Councils, local authorities, Chambers of Commerce, etc. I've listened to Prime Ministers, SoS, Perm Secs, Director Generals, ministers and other senior officials.

@LLC,

I do realise that I'm different from most people in that I'm ahead of the curve but 'odd' is not the right word to describe me. Most people are not very good dressers/shoppers and listen to commercial music so why would I want to be like them?

Over the years I have learnt that my biggest critics tends to be ones who are either inept, style challenged or simplistic thinking thickos. What they know isn't worth knowing.

I also look about 27 years of age and fit. So the Alan Partridge comparison isn't true in my case.

So the next time you see someone attempting to ridicule, ask yourself whether they fall into the following categories: inept, style challenged or simplistic thinking thickos. Or perhaps re-read this thread in a different light.

Since this is the UDT quotes thread, check this classic:

I'm thinking UDT reckons Pseu-Pseu-Pseudio is some of their finest work but really likes Heuy Lewis and the News.

His business cards are also excellent.

    • This is NEXT WEDNESDAY 11 June! Just turn up if you prefer not to give prior notice! The Palmerston from  7pm, turn left as you come in! (If you have been hiding under a rock, The Palmerston is the pub on Lordship Lane on the corner of North Cross Road).
    • Yes, at first I assumed that the bin men had taken flowering plants from my front garden while getting at my brown food bin, instead of reaching over the wall. I was very confused as I couldn't see any obvious gaps. Surely taking Toadflax from a resident's wall is not part of the council's remit? What next, are they going to come round and trim hedges in front gardens? 🤬
    • Oh, so that was the council.  Someone ripped some lovely flowering Toadflax from our wall and threw it in the gutter.  I assumed that a child had done it.  How strange?
