Stacey-lyn is right (pelvic pain from pregnancy still doesn't give you the right to determine planning issues though one might argue you've earned the right)

In addition to national planning legislation, we also have Supplemental Planning Documents (SPD) which detail local requirements. Here is the current draft of the Dulwich SPD

http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200151/supplementary_planning_documents_and_guidance/1247/dulwich_spd/1

Robin Crookshank Hilton (village ward councillor) will be working with the other local councillors and the local community on this as the consultation will begin in the next few months and will have a huge impact on how the Dulwich area develops in future.

Do a search for Robin if you want more information but I think once the consultation begins they are planning to launch a dedicated thread on the forum.

At least they tried, many people on here seem to be desperate for a soulless chain filled high street...they are going to get it in the end, sadly

Having taken part in several rent review negotiations on the Lane one way or another, I can tell you Otta is right. "What the chains will pay" is used in negotiations, leading to indies closing or taking on rents they will never really be able to afford. The only way to control it is to have a policy decision at LA level that there will be a mix of chains/indies, so that when the chain percentage is used up, the threat can no longer be used. Rather like they do at the moment with policy decisions about retail -v- food/bar outlets.

Perhaps this happened to the dry cleaner by the roundabout? According to its owner, last week he was locked out of his shop by the landlord who had reviewed his rent and hiked it and there is now a new person running the shop. A real shame - they are a local family who couldn't have been nicer...

Is it going to be the "pop up" cafe site mentioned in the notice on Blue Mountains window?

....And Soupdragon, which is now empty, so not sure what the landlord got out of turning the screws.

ANOTHER Thai eatery? I long for something a bit more novel, like a Vietnamese noodle place an Ethiopian restaurant...something fun. I'm tired all all the Indian/Bengali places around. And its all so expensive! When I moved here I planned on leisurely lunches with friends and healthy dinners with my partner. But blahh, who can afford it?

Oooppps totally contrary to the above, a Japanese/sushi place would be nice too. I can't think of a place near by that sells sushi.

Anyway, sorry to hear that Rose is leaving; she really WAS great! The older lady with long gray hair in a pony tail selling clothes there now, is a bit grumpy...she might be gone already?

    • Thank you for the feedback! Helps to see we're not alone. The only good experience we had was Modern House. Anyone tried Strike/Purple Bricks/Yopa? How did it go? Anything to be mindful of?
    • Best experience we had was with Modern House. The rest of the agents around the area are appalling.... They just want their commission and not interested in getting a good deal. You'd be lucky if they pick up the phone...
    • I’d like to echo the positive comments about Trelco. I discovered that the stopcock on the rising main was leaking and was damaging the flooring in the utility room. Not having seen this thread, or any reviews for that matter,  I picked Trelco  as it was the nearest to me. It was a gamble but goodness it paid off. James was responsive and clear in what he offered. His colleague Andy replaced the offending stopcock and put in a lever valve to allow me to shut off the water easily when I go away. He did a great job, neat and tidy, he was cheerful, friendly and professional. All this within a day of contacting them. Although not an emergency it needed resolution quickly. The price charged was very reasonable indeed, especially considering the quality of the service. I am so pleased to have found such an excellent plumber.
