I am in bed feeling quite ill (nothing to do with coronavirus).

Since quite early this morning a builder, apparently in Crystal Palace Road, has had a radio on that I can hear quite clearly through double glazing with acoustic glass in.

I am not in a position to be able to do anything about it.

If you know who this is, I'd be extremely grateful if you could ask them to turn it down :(

I believe it is from a house which is having a loft extension done, in the part of the road which runs between North Cross Road and Whateley Road, about halfway down that section, and on the side of the road opposite to The Great Exhibition.

I've got lots of better things to do. I can't do them because I'm not well.

That's why I'm presently lying in bed all day.

This is a section about local issues. Do you think it is acceptable for builders (and this is not the only one in this area) to have their radios blaring out at such high volume that I can hear it through acoustic glass?

Some noises are unavoidable. That isn't. It's antisocial, in my view.

By all means have the radio on outside if you really can't bear your own company. But please keep it at a reasonable level!

Builders make enough noise without adding the awful tinny radio to it.

You would think that the council have allowed so many plans to go through that they would get someone to go around the borough and check that the building works are not making other peoples' lives a misery with filth and dust.

After all, the council knows EXACTLY where all these works are and what is taking place.

Lucky you- you obviously haven't been surrounded by major works going on in domestic premises in your neighbourhood for the last 5 years...and having to remind builders that they are not allowed to do these things on a Sunday, and that they are supposed to contain their dust

Meh

ODDLY ENOUH THERE IS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO. YOU CAN RING THE NOISE TEAM AND THEY WILL COME OUT EVEN IF THE NOISE IS DURING THE DAY. I GOT TOLD OFF FOR PLAYING MY XMAS CAROLS A BIT LOUD AT 4PM DURING THE WEEKDAY ONCE. I THOUGHT IT WAS OKAY DURING THE DAYTIME BUT APPARENTLY NOT. JUST TO STATE I DON'T NORMALLY PLAY LOUDISH MUSIC BUT WE WERE HAVING A WEEKDAY PARTY
TOTALLY AGREE - WE HAD BUILDERS NEXT DOOR. WORKING OVER THE HOURS, SUNDAY WORKING, DUST AND RUBBISH EVERYWHERE. NO SAFETY EQUIPMENT, CONSTANT NOISE, HOUSE VIBRATING - A NIGHTMARE THAT WENT ON FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS. THE COUNCIL JUST DO NOT CARE

I thought the forum had improved lately, with fewer nasty people on it.

Clearly I was wrong.

I don't know whether they deliberately troll or whether they are just unhappy people taking it out on others.

Very sad, in all senses of the word.

Thanks to those who have been supportive.

ETA: I am not rolling in money. I am a pensioner who moved here thirty years ago, before gentrification.

The acoustic glass is because I was being constantly woken up by a neighbour's boiler.

The OP just asked politely for some help with a situation that was bothering her.

Whether or not you agree with it bothering her, there is no need at all to be unkind.

Springer, are you okay? I am now wondering if you need some help?

Sorry to hear this, Sue. It's an (unavoidable) pain in the arse at the best of times. But having to put up with blaring radios is just obnoxious; even worse when all you want to do is rest. Can't they wear headphones?

Ignore the delightful Springer and all the other trolls. Clearly got nothing better to do...

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all the supportive posts and PMs.

In the end I downloaded a white noise app, which obviously I should have thought to do before. However the radio wasn't too bad yesterday.

I am up and about now, thanks, all ready to continue self-isolating :)

    • I wonder where he could be deported to, Hungary the obvious candidate in Europe, perhaps he would get on well with Modi?   Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage both said Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood should look at whether Abd El Fattah's citizenship could be revoked to enable his swift removal from the UK. Farage said in a letter to Mahmood: "It should go without saying that anyone who possesses racist and anti-British views such as those of [Mr Abd El Fattah] should not be allowed into the UK." So just racists views are ok Nige?

    • If it's the same one I'm thinking of, it was a little further down the road towards LL, probably where the Fresh Flower Company is today. I'd forgotten all about it, with good reason. I think it disappeared before Blue Mountain opened and became a pizza place? I once bought a carton of milk from the deli and when I opened it, it was solid. I did get my money back though.
    • But when was it posted?! I haven't posted any this year. I can't bring myself to pay the exorbitant cost of the stamps, and at least I can sort of honestly blame it on illness. If I can't hand deliver them, I send e-cards. I know it's not the same, but it's very much easier. And as for the people who still send pages of closely handwritten letters .... very admirable in terms of the hours it must have taken them to write them,  but they remind me of those spoofs eg x has just passed all their many important exams with the highest marks possible, y has just walked round the world in a week, z has just become the first person ever to be knighted twice, we are about to fly off for our fifteenth exotic holiday this year ....... Or else (or sometimes and) they are full of who has had what illnesses and accidents and other catastrophes. Is this just my relatives and distant friends? Am I somehow attracting these reams of handwritten paper?
