The Southwark website on libraries has changed since earlier, it doesn't say they have closed but just gives information on the new online library catalogue

I was in Dulwich Library on Thursday afternoon and staff had just been told that due to the shortage of staff - all the libraries wee going to be closed from that night.

But you can access eBooks, newspapers, magazines online with Southwark Library membership. Really easy to organise and register - https://www.southwark.gov.uk/libraries

I have DVDs which I tried to return on last date ,Friday, but library closed. Cannot renew and computer says ongoing fines of ?1.10 per day each. I shall be up to some ?200 in 3 months time!!

I think they stop fining you when it gets to ?20

They changed the computer log-in recently. My fines incurred because I couldn't renew were rescinded.

Alas, the ones I racked up before that were not!

DEFINITELY all fines and overdue payments are stopped.

Sadly the council website is woefully behind saying libraries open.

But definitely no overdue fines while COVID-19 causing libraries to remain shut.

Hello James, can I ask why the park cafe is still open and allowing mass spreading ? Why was the market open yesterday ? Southwark has one of the highest rates in the country ?

Hi GardenPlaners,

You've highlighted council stupidity. Website was saying earlier today libraries are open when they've been closed. Disaster planning will improve as the council gets its act together.

Not helped by central government asking people nicely rather than imposing clear unambiguous instructions backed by law.

https://www.southwark.gov.uk/libraries/southwark-libraries-and-covid-19 now announces the indefinite closure of all libraries, and that loans will be auto-renewewed and fines cancelled.
