Those images are awful and not akin to my style. Think David Beckham and Brad Pitt, but better.

No. I am terminally uncool.

But I realise that and am comfortable with myself. Which is clearly better than acting like a wally, desperately trying to convince other people how cool you, your music, your clothes, and your friends are.

But uncool is the new cool Jeremy - until so many of the uncool join the 'circle' so as to make them the majority (or one of the significant minorities) whereupon they then become uncool again.

Like a stopped clock, if one never changes one will probably be cool at least twice in ones life - one just may not know it at the time.

What a shameful thread this is. The OP appears to have deactivated herself from the forum (her account no longer exists) and I don't blame her. She started a thread asking for perfectly reasonable advice and she got laughed at and sneered at. Five pages of car crash nonsense. I just read the whole thing beginning to end. None of you look cool.

I don't blame her either. I gave some helpful direction to Ms B as I have an interest in fashion/style but can you honestly say that the likes of Hugo, Jeremy, Red Devil, and El Pibe do? I don't think so.

Ms B refered to these small core of people as trying to bigging themselves up on a forum. Enuff said.

giggirl, I guess you are primarily talking about me.

The thread was effectively ruined by the time I came along, thanks to a certain other user's bizarre, attention-seeking boasts. If it had been entirely on-topic, I probably wouldn't have got involved.

However, most men find it incomprehensible that anyone could get "exhausted" at the thought of buying a couple of outfits, and my post was intended to reflect this in a light-hearted way. I regret using language which obviously upset Ms B (and I did PM her to try and straighten it out), but I stick by the gist of what I said. Shameful? I am not ashamed at all.

UDT, please let me try to offer you some impartial assistance:

Potentially useful:

Weird:

I think it's a shame too. For me, I refused to be bullied off a forum because of the same small core of people having self-esteem issues. In life there will always be someone better than you so deal with it.

I think more people will question the likes of Jeremy about the value of his opinions and judgments too.

If Jeremy thinks my posts affects his self-esteem then the answer is don't read them. No one forced him to join this thread and is not as if he could shed further light on fashion/style. Jeremy thinks my posts are weird because simply he doesn't know any better.

@AM, I was asked to leave two shops because their staff had low self-esteem issues. It has nothing to do with my behaviour and certainly does not exclude me from joining this thread to give advice. In fact, another person I knew, also complained about this person's behaviour in one of the two questionable shops.

Actually UDT, MsB didn't refer to a 'small core of people bigging themselves up', you did.

She did however comment on your 'helpful directiom', which she described as, quote ''...bizarre posturings...'' ...hardly a glowing reference.

UDT, I have no desire to attempt to bully you, or push you off the forum.

But in my years on this forum, I've only come across one person who openly claims to be better than others. That person is you. So I'm afraid you will have to expect some backlash from the objects of your condescension.

I grant you that it is unpaletable that UDT has staked a claim on the moral high-ground when his posts have been so self-serving and not remotely helpful to the OP or anyone else.

My comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, Jeremy. It was aimed at everyone who hijacked the thread and turned it into a pissing contest.

Jeremy, normally I think your posts are sound and your opinions balanced, but this is not your finest hour. I get that you found the OP's request "incomprehensible". It's OK not to understand something but ignorange is not a virtue and I think your comments to her were off. I would ask you to accept that there are other forum users, myself included, that thought her ask was perfectly resasonable.

I understand that UDT winds a lot of people up. He doesn't wind me up because I won't engage with him. I only read this thread because another forumite mentioned it to me this morning.

This isn't the first and won't be the last thread to be hijaked. Sometimes that can be amusing but all you had to do was take the temperature of this thread as early as the top of page 2 to know that this wasn't going to be one of those fun times.

I feel sad that the OP has closed her account. That's all I wanted to say. She obviously had her reasons and I don't think it's anybody's place to call her "over sensitive" or whatever was said. It's a brave person who comes on this forum these days asking for advice.

Sorry giggirl but it was the neutrals who paved my claim to the moral high ground. Ms B even chipped in on my defence in the UDT thread.

I think my post has been helpful with the stylist suggestion and I feel vindicated when Moos also presented the case for one as well.

Moving on, in life I've been called lots of things but one thing for certain, the common denominators are that these people don't know any better or have low self-esteem issues. I click with people who are very knowledgeable and highly capable.

I also remember Marmora Man asking for advice on shaving http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,886041,894698#msg-894698, yet it *Bob* decided to ambushed the thread and followed by the usual core of people. Can you honestly say that these core of people offered real advice, Giggygirl?

    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
    • interesting the police said "the car was in demand at the moment" what make/model is that?
