Still off in Oglander.

Got this text update from UK Power:

Update at 17:37 - Our engineers are on their way. At this point we think the issue is an underground network fault that initially interrupted power to 1161 properties. However, by rerouting electricity in the area, currently 293 customers are still affected. Using an average timescale, we're estimating power will be on between 19:00 and 20:00, but this may change later.

If anyone wants to sign up to these text updates here?s how:

Power cut alert from UK Power Networks. We're aware of a potential unplanned power cut affecting your area. Our reference is INCD-232242-J. If your power's off you can keep updated by texting POWER and your postcode to 80876 (standard text fees apply to 80876, but any texts we send are free). Just seen this in the Independent warning off possible power cuts during lockdown:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/coronavirus-update-lockdown-power-cuts-blackout-electricity-advice-a9437691.html

'British households told to prepare for blackouts as coronavirus lockdown goes on

Vulnerable people told to ?keep a torch, hat, gloves and blanket handy?'

'British households have been told to prepare for blackouts by keeping torches and warm clothes handy' True

'the coronavirus lockdown continues.' True

But the coronavirus lockdown isn't causing blackouts as the opening sentence may suggest.

Its just a term I remember from my childhood (50's)

These glitches used to occur nightly as demand for electricity increased at peak hours.

Supplies changing over from one Power station to another. I don't know how it all works these days.

Perhaps if a sub station fails, another will kick in.

It's a good idea to keep at least one of those portable power banks (is that what they're called?) charged up, so that you can always charge your phone in case of an emergency when there is a power cut.

You can buy them online, eg from John Lewis or Amazon (and I expect many other places).

    • Loki hasn’t been seen since Sunday. He’s all grey but if you look closely he has faint stripes on the top of his tail. No pedigree, just very much loved. About 4 years old. No collar, but chipped.  please keep an eye out for him. We live on Barry Road SE22
    • I went in here the other day. The fruit is all really good - ripe and fresh. They also sell good bread (and croissants and pastries) from a independent bakery, the name of which I've forgotten. 🤦 The prices (which are marked) are not cheap but they are fair imo. Comparable to the specialist fruit shop on Lordship Lane (Brothers?) for really good quality. It's similar prices to Simply Fresh - but Simply Fresh's fruit and veg is very poor. Beaten about and tasteless. Sainsbury's is certainly cheaper. IMVHO they're a good addition to the Dulwich Village "retail offer".
    • Went actually for the first time yesterday. Terrific food, so was well pleased. Agree with previous poster to support.
    • Hi!! Moving house soon so looking for some cardboard boxes. Anyone know of any shops or cafes that may be giving some away?
