So, I went for Persepolis in the end and was not disappointed. ?28 for dinner for two and it was an absolute feast with plenty leftover for tomorrow.

Babur will be saved for another day.

Two other fancy options I found. Artusi do a delivery, as does Cafe Murano in Bermondsey. Both are a bit more 'cook it yourself' but look good.

What is the point of ordering a meal that you have to cook yourself. ??

How does that work ??

I had a look on their website, it sounds amazing. Will have to give it a go.

I suppose the logic is that it's nicer than something that was cooked half an hour ago and has been sitting in a plastic container and swished around by a delivery driver. But I too would be interested to hear how much cooking is involved.

So, what was delivered was a fully prepared meal ready to slip into the oven, and 40 minutes later, voila! Someone else therefore, had prepared the chicken, and the veg, added herbs and seasoning, made focaccia and also made a chocolate mousse. It is probably a moot point if what we had to do was ?cooking? but it wasn?t reheating so that is why I said cooking. Hope that helps. And just to say, as well as all the prep having been done, the most wonderful thing was eating something where I didn?t know how it was going to taste before sitting down to eat it, something I hadn?t done for any meal, for five weeks! However good a cook you are, if you taste as you go, for seasoning etc, you are always going to know what it will taste like. And bonus, we supported our favourite restaurant and can?t wait to be back there.

Another vote for artusi (my birthday dinner of lockdown) - we had a delicious burrata with peas, cooked fresh pasta (4 mins in boiling water?) then drained and added the sauce as a stir through. For desert a delicious panna cotta and coulis with pistachio biscotti. It was wonderful, opened a nice bottle of red and said lots of ?oh yum?s. Excellent as the nights are getting warmer too - I hope they keep it up post lockdown!!
Jay Rayner?s column in the Observer yesterday focused on takeaways including a few not far from ED. I particularly like the sound of Limett Bistrot In West Dulwich. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2020/may/24/its-time-for-a-takeaway-and-there-is-a-dazzling-array-of-offerings-available

Thanks both, sounds like just the ticket!

Been to the Babur since the 90s and seen the popularity, quality and prices go up in that time. It is a treat but not a treat for my wallet! May stick my neck out some time and get some high quality takeaway from there but it will seem strange paying so much.

That said I don't eat meat and have not found a good takeaway in the area. The Indian stuff is slop. Chinese vegetarian an afterthought. Kebab shops exactly that - meat kababs. For a pizza may as well get a supermarket one.

I've done street food for lunch at various markets but not sure if any of the takeaways around here can match that eg even the falafels cannot compete. (shop bought ones even worse, but the dry mixes are great) Found this thread interesting and have yet to try Persepolis - was on my list for a bite to eat. And not done Ganesh yet. I wonder whether we are near enough to Tooting to try some of the places there and there will be other places eg Vietnamese and some fusion which could be good

    • I recently had a utility room built, next to the kitchen. Dean Richards and his team carried out the works, they did a fantastic job. Thorough, with attention to every detail.  If you are considering an extension, refurbishment or renovation, Dean comes highly recommended.  Dean Richards  07888 651798
    • Thanks to all for the comments and advice.  I have now reported the incident to the police.
    • Thanks everyone for your comments, all of which I’ve taken something from. I originally posted to warn and help others learn from my experience – hence the title, first and last words of the post. However, the process of posting and reading your comments has helped me better make sense of what felt ‘off’ about the incident, why and what I’d do differently next time. I hadn’t expected this outcome, so thank you.  It’s also yielded several ‘golden nugget’ insights, one of which I share here for others. For context, I’m a longtime SE22 resident, who lives on a street with a primary school, so am used to scooting, cycling, walking with buggies, small children, pets etc. I like where I live and have never been struck on a pavement by anyone, on wheels or otherwise. I’ve been fortunate. When walking down Carlton Avenue towards Dulwich Village yesterday, I was on the left-hand side of the pavement but – ‘golden nugget’ approaching – not as close to people’s front garden walls as I could have been. The cyclist came from behind and overtook on the inside i.e. passed between me and the wall. The gap was too narrow and he hit my leg. For clarity, my original post was about the lack of adult supervision of a child. There’s been much comment here about the cyclist’s age. I didn’t know he was 4, until his father told me. I felt that this was a tactic – along with telling me I was over-reacting, talking about intent, apologising undercut with ‘but’ and laughing – to downplay and avoid taking responsibility for his part in the situation. But I accept that is my perception, readers weren’t there and may think differently. What also felt ‘off’ is that the father didn’t see what happened or ask any questions to find out. What happened? Where did he hit you? How hard? Are you alright? Is my son alright? Is everyone alright? This sounds obvious but wasn’t to me until last night. Back to age. Is the age of the cyclist important? If you consider it from the perspective of a four-year-old, it might be. He’s on his bike, helmet on, speeding along, sees a gap and thinks he can get through it. He doesn’t know and/or may never have been told about the risks (to himself and others) of undertaking on the left. Hits pedestrian. I was not expecting to be hit from behind or the undertaking. But had I walked closer to the wall – and not left a potentially inviting gap – this probably wouldn’t have happened. This is just one ‘golden nugget’ I will take away. It’s something I can easily do, doesn’t depend on anyone else doing anything differently, and could contribute towards keeping myself and others safe. All in all, posting here has been unexpectedly useful for me. I hope for others, too. I feel able to move forward with learnings, so thank you guys.
