trick1002
Hi, So I was walking down Bellenden Road yesterday and found out there is a new butchery opening down there. Looks interesting. Really like the name- Flock & Herd (http://www.flockandherd.com/) Will be good to see another butchery around here as I am only aware of William Rose.Hopefully it will be open soon in time to catch the last couple of weeks of the BBQ season. You never know, we might even get a freak heatwave in October again. Anyway, I've signed up to their website so if I hear anything about the opening I'll get it on here if anyone else is interested. Check it out for yourself anywayhttp://www.flockandherd.com/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25308-flock-and-herd-butchery/ Share on other sites

KidKruger
Coincidence - I was handed a flyer for very same butcher today at 11.30 in Goose Green playground.. Peckhamrye
Why not fair? Presumably they shut it as it wasn't making enough money? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25308-flock-and-herd-butchery/#findComment-572778 Share on other sites
Domme_Jay
I'll just miss it, practically stopped eating meat until it opened. The staff were lovely, hope it's not replaced by a fast food outlet! Bellenden Belle
William Rose has shut for August so that staff from both shops can take holidays - it will reopen in September. Jeremy
Surprising, there were always other customers whenever we went in there. Admittedly, I never went in there mid-week though. The selection was nowhere near as good as the LL branch, but a useful shop nonetheless. Bellenden Belle
Ah, I stand corrected then - I was told that by the staff but maybe there was a hange of plan. Must say, it was very quiet in the week - but then so is the Lordship Lane branch compared to its weekend footfall. Alex K
For what it's worth -- http://williamrosebutchers.com has not been updated to reflect the withdrawal of service from the East Dulwich Grove branch.Hope will cling to the slenderest reed. If that branch DOES re-open, let's flock there. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25308-flock-and-herd-butchery/#findComment-573039 Share on other sites
Gidget
Wasn't that branch a training shop for young butchers? I don't think it had a full complement of flesh did it? Bellenden Belle
This is a thread about Flock and Herd - there's no need to turn it into a thread about supporting a different butcher. From what I've heard Flock and Herd are likely to offer slightly different produce to William Rose anyway - an emphasis on game for example and the promise of homemade faggots. I think it would be great for people to support a new business - and healthy competition for a Lordship Lane stalwart is no bad thing either. But that aside, I think a decent butchers is great news for Bellenden Rd. And I think they are far enough apart to happily co-exist. maria
Apparently the grove branch of William Rose was an overspill for refrigeration as the LL branch is so busy without enough capacity. I think the introduction of another good local butcher that cares about its provenance of its meat can only be great for the area in general. Local greens the weekly veg bag scheme are hoping to introduce a collection point at the Victoria very soon as well. So the Bellenden road area will be well covered food wise. simonethebeaver
Kim Libretto has decent game although only has what he's given, if that makes sense. There are lots of local competitors for William Rose already, with faithful customers. Mega-Bat
I think the chap opening Flock and Herd may be the same young man who used to manage The Ginger Pig in Borough Market. I read the message on the shop window and he has the same name as the butcher that used to appear on Market Kitchen occasionally as a 'meat expert', and work in Borough. If so, welcome to Bellenden Road Mr. Celebrity Butcher. dunc00
Great, looking forward to it. I used to go to Borough Market and loved the service from Charlie. I can't wait to have him as my local butcher and walk past each day to see if it is open yet. I had a peek in the window and the shop is taking good form. Peckhamrye
Don't worry, offending people on here is the easiest thing in the world! I too am looking forward to Flock and GHerd, have no allegiance to them, it will just be great to have a proper food shop in Bellenden Road. flockandherd
Hi,Just a quick introduction of myself I?m Charlie who is opening Flock & Herd Butchery on Bellenden Road in the next couple of weeks. We are focusing on free range meats along side our own sausages and bacon. I have a passion for saucing free range animals from small farms that have had time to grow slowly and have lived a happy life. I have a lot of friends, family and old customers who live around the area and I?m sure some read the forum as it?s a great community website. I look forward to meeting you soon and welcoming you to Flock & Herd. Thanks for all the support and feel free to visit www.flockandherd.com or @flockandherd to keep up to date with news.
