Belle - oooh love the idea of Sirius but got a resounding eye roll from husband...

Ruth - Ahhhh E's middle name is Michael! Did we know that they shared a MN? I love it...even though it's conventional for me! But would never use it as a first name as don't like Mike, you have to be at one with the nickname... Even if like me, you love the nickname but never use it yourself (mother's prerogative!).

I love Micah and think it's lovely with Reuben. But I like the meee-kah pronunciation whereas I think most pronounce it Mike-ah? Again brings me back to Mike as a nickname so out for us!

Thinking about it there's not many Peters around. My Dad's name is Peter (he's 84) and most people call him Pete, so you have got to think of possible shortenings of names I suppose.

By the way if you like Jarvis, I would go for it. There won't be another when he starts reception class and I think it's a great name but each to their own.

When my son was born he was going to be a Daniel (he's now 19). As soon as he was born he didn't look like a Daniel and he isn't now!

Seriously, go traditional ie counter trend. You can be very sure there will be plenty of "whatevers" at school, to your surprise, on day 1 if you choose something outlandish. Everyone is doing it. If you opt for a traditional name, you will find no other child has it in this vicinity and it is so much more pleasant than being called "whatever" aged 20. Otoh, I'm fundamentally old fashioned!
That's a strange logic dg2, the most 'traditional' names are still massively popular and you can often find 3 x James, William, Charlie, Benjamin or similar in many classrooms in ED. Plenty of people are still going the traditional route, which is fine but personally I would stay away from top-20 for that reason.

friend's son is called Harrison - I quite like that!

My friends son is called Silas and I always thought it was a v ugly name but I see she is very in vogue! Glad for that!

I would have called a son Thomas I think but again quite traditional. Max, Joe.

The "doublers' in my daughters class are Josh and Max though.

Susypx

Thanks all for some lovely suggestions, keep them coming, hopefully also useful for others in similar boat.

We do have one traditional name suggested here on the (very) short agreed list but not convinced. Also one of Fuschia's suggestions is our definite agreed middle name, after a family member, tho with slightly diff spelling to F's.

I can see that many of the suggestions go v well with Reuben but we kind of want to steel

clear of another old testament name, which wasn't why we chose Reuben as both v much athiests, just love the name.

I find the name websites and books a bit overwhelming as never know where to begin, hence turning to the forum, so thanks again!

Perhaps I am spending so much time thinking about the name in order not to think about other newborn-related matters!

Love the name Silas, good literary connection. Think Wilfred would go with Reuben. Some great names suggested here. Also like Isaac and Gideon. Rollo was on our list for baby 1 (who turned out to be a girl) but we went off it for some reason. BST I love E names and have 2, was worried it might sound a bit twee but think it works. My boy's name is quite unusual but also old testament. We are often asked if we're religious, we're not just love the name...

Goodness me there are some extremely strange names coming up here please remember your children have to attend school at some point maybe not set them up for a life time of bullying you no how cruel kids can be , also some names just suit babies they are going to be teenagers and men don't forget !

Just saying

    • Admin, please move this if it's in the wrong section. Can anybody recommend a reasonably local dietician (or possibly nutritionist? Not sure what the difference is). My GP has suggested I see a dietician, but there isn't one attached to the practice. I have googled, but it's very hard to tell what people may be like from an online description, and I want somebody who is properly qualified. Alternatively, please PM me if you know of people I should avoid! Thanks x

    • If you look at the application linked to in the OP, you'll see it's a Licensing Act 2003 one, in this case for the purposes of sale by retail of alcohol and for the provision of late night refreshment: "TAKEAWAY COFFEE/ HOT SNACKS 2300-0100". IF the shop counts as a Hot Food Takeaway, then section P48 of the Southwark Plan https://www.southwark.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2024-09/Southwark Plan 2022 reduced 1.pdf , which appears to be the latest one linked to on Southwark's site, will I presume be applied in any  planning application (Is there one?). It says: "New hot food takeaways will only be permitted where: ..... 3. The proposed location is further than 400 metres from any existing or proposed primary or secondary school’s boundary; ....." It incorporates  policy laid down in the National Planning Policy Framework, and thence the London Plan.  Over the years KFC, and others, have taken a  number of appeals against local planning authority decisions on Takeaways to the Planning Inspectorate.  Some have been allowed.  KFCs 'commentary on evidence contained in London Plan Topic Paper: Hot Food Takeaways', https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/nlp_ad_91.pdf may be of interest to some. I'm guessing it's referring to https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/london_plan_topic_paper_on_hot_food_takeaways.pdf of 2018, but haven't yet checked.
