heres a C&P regaridng you cats safety during this cheery period

"The holidays introduce quite an array of new items in your cats environment, much to their delight.

Just remember the old saying ?Curiosity killed the cat?!

They will poke their little noses into everything, taste, chomp, and eat that which entices.

Keep your knowledge of kitty behavior in the back of your mind to help make your festive home safe for your cats .

Trees:

Cats will chew & possibly eat the leaves of real & fake trees. This could be toxic or cause gastric distress.

Water in the tree stand is often treated with preservatives or sugar. Prevent your cat from drinking this water.

Tinsel, if ingested, will wrap around intestines, causing death. Cats cannot gag it out. Same goes for ribbon!

Lights:

Prevent cats from chewing on wires

Plants:

Many plants are toxic, poisonous, or can cause serious stomach upset if ingested. Poinsettias, lilies, and holly berries are common.

Presents:

Watch out for those ribbons, especially the curling ribbon.

Candles:

Flames accessible to cats is just plain dangerous. Try flameless candles.

Scent:

Holiday homes smell lovely but remember, kitties are very sensitive to those chemicals behind the scent (as are some people). Be judicious on their use. Baking cookies & pies smells better!

Table confetti:

Cats may eat the small, sharp edged pieces & succumb to intestinal & throat distress.

Fake snow: Don?t even think of putting this out.

Hope this safety list from Wet Whisker cat grooming helps guide your holiday decorating. Look for cat safe decorative items and have a wonderful holiday season!"

Someone actually spent time posting this on the internet. Is there no end to this idiocy ?

    • A couple of updates to this terrible event:   1) In 2021, two cousins (one from Penge and one from Streatham) were convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison. The Southwark News has a summary of the awful day. https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/donnell-rhule-dulwich-knife-murderer-cousins-sentenced-to-life-for-killing-18-year-old/    2) Last week, a female prison officer from Forest Hill was sentenced to eight months in prison for pursuing a relationship with one of the two murderers while at HMP Brixton. https://metro.co.uk/2025/12/15/probation-officer-admits-relationship-prisoner-hmp-belmarsh-25501445/ https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/38203627/probation-officer-jailed-illicit-relationship-murderer-secure-prison/
    • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.
    • She's responded, but I'm sure I read something in the Guardian consumer advice column. Might be some pointers if you're stuck
    • Two for Ratcliffe, the obvious one:   And one simply because it has the word  "You are nothing but blind fascists" in it.  Oh and a good song too.   Haven't listened to this for years.  Bloody good!
