Pretty surprised about this - what happened to the no new fast food outlets within 400m of schools initiative?

I'm pretty confident Charter ED and Dog Kennel Hill Primary are well within 400m...

If the Fast food outlets near schools cannot be closed..


.. then the schools will need to be closed..

The fish and chip shop that was previously there sold terrible fish and chips - this is why it failed. Compare and contrast to Ken's on Half Moon Lane which has queues out of the door.


If Maxim chicken is anything to go by, the new place will have a steady stream of customers

sort of inevitable, given the price of F&C these days compared to fried chicken.

current situation will only make people poorer so fried chicken may become the new national dish - if its not already !

I think there was an article in Guardian yesterday about 'fried chicken mile' at Mile End, East London, obesity and related health issues later in life (heart, diabetes).

Given the amount of people complaining about the poor quality of fish and chips, despite the owner being lovely this is a must win.


I've noticed that when ever any kind of cafe / food shop opens, people always whinge. Someone opened a cafe specialising in brunch and the first comment was - don't be a trendy poached eggs style cafe etc...


Why not visit the stores and keep the economy going instead of whinging and moaning..

Good news for the economy/pigeons/foxes but not great for those who like to see little-free streets. Chicken boxes and soft-drink containers make up a sizeable bit of the litter I see (and sometimes pick up, if it?s safe to do so) and the combo of kids and fast food will likely make litter more visible. (Yes, most kids are not litter louts but some are and having a new fast-food outlet open will mean more rubbish on the streets.) Once again, the poorly paid street cleaner will be having to work harder for no extra money because I doubt the vendor will set up litter patrols within, say, a fifty yard radius.

Fried chicken is tasty (I accept that this is a matter of personal taste, but clearly enough people think so), quick to be served / to eat and incredibly cheap. It's not difficult to see why it is popular.


What really needs to be addressed is the poor farming methods. But it looks like the UK is moving towards even laxer standards post brexit, so kids are going to be getting fatter.

what makes you say that?


I know we have to be careful of the very poor standards of US food and how that might impact us, but am not aware of any drop in standards since Brexit.


In fact interested in post Brexit as it has been silent for a while. Is the UK in a better position (only) in that we don't have to bail out other EU countries post COVID?


It was such a hot topic and it's almost as if it's been forgotten.

      I recently hired Andy to paint the newly plastered walls in my front room, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From the start, he offered a fair and reasonable price for the work, and his professionalism really stood out. Andy has a wealth of experience and was happy to share suggestions about colour choices and paint types, which made the decision-making process much easier. He completed the work within the agreed timescale, and I am very happy with the finish.  What impressed me most is that Andy went above and beyond what I initially asked. He not only painted the room beautifully but also helped with extra tasks such as putting up the wall bracket, curtain poles, and curtains, and even gave me a hand moving furniture between rooms. That level of support is rare and very much appreciated. If you’re looking for a painter and decorator who is reliable, trustworthy, reasonably priced, experienced, and willing to go the extra mile to help, I would highly recommend Andy.

      John recently skimmed the walls in our front room lounge, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. From start to finish, he was professional, punctual, and easy to work with.   He arrived on time each day and kept me updated on progress, which made the whole process smooth and stress-free. The quality of his plastering is smooth, even, and ready to paint with minimal prep. He takes real pride in his work.   John was also very tidy, laying down protective sheets and cleaning up thoroughly after the job was done. It’s clear he respects his clients’ homes, which I really appreciated.   On top of that, he’s friendly, approachable, and trustworthy someone you feel comfortable having in your home. His pricing was fair and transparent, with no unexpected costs.   Highly recommended if you're looking for a skilled and reliable plasterer. I’ll definitely be using him again for any future work.
