The Pavement opposite has been 'Widened' for social distancing.. ???

Very Odd when all the Bars cafes and restaurants are chock-a-block.

The popular Bus Stop is currently Closed.

The Elderly and Disabled now have to walk to the next Bus Stop to catch a bus.

It's ridiculous because the barriers take up less of the road than the parked cars did, so there's no good reason for buses not to stop there.

That's very true. It is just typical of Southwark Council and TFL.

Sainsburys has a deal for The Elderly to shop between 8.00 - 9.00 when it is quieter

but with bus stops closed and Freedom passes no longer available early morning

Elderly folk who rely on Public Transport cannot get there.

It is a crime to be old. The Elderly are a Burden on Society, TFL and the NHS.

We should all stay at home until we Die.

The bus stop affected is considerably narrow, so I understand why they've done it, but I would like to see it reopen or replaced to a wider part of the pavement as a temporary measure.

Do you mean there's no indent into the pavement where the bus stop is? That's true. But the barrier they've put in to widen the pavement on the east side of the street is only half as wide as the cars and vans that used to be parked there. So as a driver heading south you've now got MORE room than you had before, not less. Plus being barriers rather than vehicles there'll be no pedestrians walking out from behind parked vehicles. So all in all I would say it is now safer to have the bus stop there than it was before.

TfL have done the correct thing in closing the bus stop to safeguard pedestrians. It?s in a part of Lordship Lane where traffic is heavy, regardless of what?s happening on the other side of the road, and pedestrians should not have to walk in the road there to maintain social distancing. Outside Mrs Robinson?s would be a far better permanent position.

ETA Someone said further up the bus stop shouldn?t be closed because it meant the elderly and disabled would have further to walk. Should just like to point out that pedestrians trying to pass those waiting for the bus, and the actual structure of the shelter, also include the elderly and disabled, and people with push chairs, who should not be forced out on to the road.

The bus stop is on the other side of the road from the street widening. No one would be forced into the road by the bus stop being open.

The pavement is very narrow there and when there are people waiting for a bus it is impossible to walk by and maintain social distancing without walking in the road. Street widening on the other side of the road is irrelevant.

It?s no more narrow than the stop outside the post office. Especially when there?s a queue of people along the wall for the post office

TFL are not there to assist people.

Their policy along with the policy of Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is to make public Transport

as difficult as possible for people to use. Especially the Elderly.

What a ridiculous statement. Those changes to the Freedom Pass seem entirely sensible to me. Older people can still travel free after 9am for the rest of the day and all day at weekends and bank holidays. How many retired people really need to travel before 9am on weekdays? And let's face it, the reason we have all these social distancing measures is to ... protect older people.

As for Sadiq Khan having a chauffeur and security, what did you expect? Do you really think the Mayor should queue for the bus? Do you think Boris Johnson did that when he was mayor?

Anyway, back to the cinema bus stop - moving it to outside Mrs Robinson does seem sensible. I hope they will eventually put up one of those temporary bus stops there.

I think you will find it is after 09:30.

I have an early appointment at Kings booked for October which I will have to cancel

I have lost a couple of other early appointments..

The changes to Freedom Pass times have meant the early morning Sainsbury's

sessions for vunerable and elderly folk are difficult for those who do not drive,

having to drag heavy bags of shopping back home down Dog Kennel Hill.

Moving the Bus stop outside Mrs Robinson will involve removing the Pedestrian Crossing.

NOT such a brilliant idea.
