Through my door this morning is the Lib Dem 'Focus' newsletter which includes the words "Your local Lib Dem councillors" has been delivered to my door with news from East Dulwich ward.

To my knowledge, College Ward has one Tory and two Labour councillors, so why are the Lib Dems sending out their publications to people who didn't vote for them in 2010?

They are hoping there is a sun reader or two in the ward that they can persuade to vote for them next time...

I got one today in the East Dulwich area despite having a "no junk mail" notice up, which makes me think the lib dem leaflet delivery person must have the reading age of a Sun reader not to have understood the instructions... Thankfully it is recycling day today ;-)

Political boasting is (junk), as is political advertising from parties I don't support, UKIP or the BNP for example. Apart from the contact details of councillors who don't represent me there was precious little 'information' in the leaflet.

Are you joking? The Greens producing and distribute leaflets. I always considered it rather ironic, really.

I think that's a bit unfair.

I was interested to see that apparently ED residents (who? I don't recall being asked) want the Dulwich Hospital site to become either a primary school or housing for oldies, and that the Lib Dems want the old police building opposite the Actress to become the ED police station so that the police don't have to return to Camberwell for their breaks :)

So 'information' - results of a possible survey (how many? how chosen? when? not disclosed) or perhaps just received opinions and a statement about liberal policy on policing - a bit of information, then (about liberal policy) - but nothing about the police response, if any, costs, how it would work etc. etc.

I don't mind the liberals wanting to tell me things - but I'm not an elector for the ward which is telling me, so a bit of a waste of effort, really.

If I recall correctly there have been several community council meetings which have asked about the proposed use of Dulwich Hospital. Also NHS Southwark/PCT have also had public meetings re health care in Southwark and people have put in various proposals re school/police/care home etc.

Despite being in a LD ward - we get leaflets from labour and Tory councillors informing us what is going on in Southwark.Perhaps someone wanted to wind you up a little by posting the LD leaflet!!

have I missed something here? is southwark owned by a particular group or party? do parts of southwark vote exclusively? is my voting checked by someone and when I don't vote as my neighbours vote will I be strong armed by the majority? To paraphrase someone above did no one in college vote LD and might no one who voted other might they not in the privacy of the voting booth try another party in the future for infinitely many reasons?

do not, do not assume party affiliation for me. I have voted each and every of the not extreme right wing nasties

and I have lived in completely normal countries with rigged party votes and corrupt party systems and disenfranchised voters

and I live in southwark and I have been attacked physically ( !!!! ) by party affiliated fat white male bouncers because they decided I dissed one of theirs

It is beyond me the political tone and name calling taken by people on this forum who think they own political truth

from pugwash above:

My issue with the Lib Dem propaganda is that they didn't get enough votes to represent me in College Ward. It's the work of the two Labour Cllrs and the Tory which are of interest and have no issue when their respective parties send their newsletters through the door.

A newsletter from ED ward has no relevance to me or how I'll vote in the next council election.

Hi Artfuldogger,

No junk mail is tricky becuaqse some are happy ot get political stuff and others not.

If you email me your address I'll make a note to ensure you at least don't get any letters from us.

Hi the-e-dealer,

Which local election promise have I broken?

Hi Mattydj,

Sorry about the 7.30am but when should we deliver leaflets when we have day jobs and families?

Hi Bic Basher,

It doesnt work quite like that. You elect ward councillors. Buut the majority of policies are decided by the majority of all ward councillors. So I'm delighted that local Labour and Tory politicians are now supporting our campaign to have an ED Police station.

Hi Sue,

Dulwich Hospital site we hand delivered survey to all East Dulwich ward homes. For knocked on doors for most homes to try and explain the survey to encourage responses. our policies are based and informed on those responses.

Fair enough, James, thanks.

    • Miranda Sawyer of the (once) Observer has done a piece on festival on Insta which might be of-interest.  Councils are private companies, imo. They make money for themselves, imo.  I do not think by law that they have to follow anything brought up by a consultation, this is for 'face' only - hence, LTNs and everything else.
    • My understanding is the "free event" is 100% Gala, nothing to do with the council. Obviously Gala will still make money from the food & drink that they are trying to coerce punters into buying on their social media posts. Their costs will be negligible due to already having the infrastructure in place for Gala. So Gala are trying to appear community minded by providing this "free event", but the real goal is to set a precedent for a fourth day's festival - which surely no one could possibly object to?!? - in preparation for applying (again) for two three-day festivals spread over two weekends. It's only another two days, right, and the site & equipment is already there, so why would anyone object?!? More money for the council, much more money for Gala, win-win right? But yet another week of our park taken away from us, too, and another 18,000 people trampling & littering the park, and another week of disturbance for the native birds & wildlife...
    • Meson Don Felipe on The Cut was my go to place for many years. Though it's now many years since I was there. 10-15 minute walk from the Tate. If you go can you tell me what it's like nowadays?
    • Doubt you would have got much change out of £150.00 for battery and certainly having forked out for it, best to use your car. I recently sold  my car via webuyanycar.com - very pleasant experience & was roughly what I was expecting. Pop your bangers reg jnto their website to get an idea of price - they do send e mails once a fortnight/month just as an aid for you. Easy enough to delete - don’t even have to read valuation. They literally buy any car - if you can’t get it to them, they will charge you to get it there or recommend a co that will do it for you. Must say, mine was a 2014 reg and whilst a bit suspicious, paid extra to get money into my account as needed it for next car but was assured funds had I not gone down route I took would be in my account within 5 days. I now live in the country - every time I have been back to Dulwich and surrounding area, normally get a fine for driving at wrong time or parking at  wrong time so if I drive now, park in West or East Dulwich and do everything else by public transport and walking.  Were I still to be living in ED then before I left was pondering this very issue but since I have been back regularly for health reason I no longer drive but take the train and then buses, walk or Uber. Much cheaper than running a car and had I stayed, that would have been the course I would have taken. I don’t go out everyday, have an allotment or job to go to or family so in my case, would be cheaper not to have a car.  Was truely shocked   at the cost of second hand cars…..but where I now live only has a smattering of buses so no choice but to have wheels to get from A to B etc.
