Asset. I suggested something like this a long time ago. BBW was controversial and whilst a lot of people loved his edgy comedy, there was no way to show if you liked it but of course he was controversial so the "report this post" option was available for the people who didn't like him but nothing was available for those who did.

As a result he got lots of reports and got banned, there were no likes. I'm sure the likes would have outnumbered the reports so I suggested it then.

I know SJ would approve.

What about a 'polarise' option?

I think about 40% of what BBW did was edgy comedy, the rest was boring vitriol. He wasn't the brightest card in the pack and he could be very unpleasant.

I suspect that he was actually banned for being monotonously cynical. Since most people would argue that was insufficient reason, then a WMD argument was constructed around it.

Having said that I'm sure I'm on thin ice myself, and people in glasshouses etc.

Like it or not?

It might be helpful to do it this way.

Do I like Dog Pooh?

No because I once kicked some off the pavement forgetting I was wearing open toed high heel shoes, that's where I got the name Winnie the Pooh from my work mates.

It was BBW's humour that got him a long stay of execution several times and meant he was indulged with many alter egos against the rules.

He'd always blow it though and come out with something utterly offensive, he just couldn't help himself.

*the above text is held on a moderator access online dropbox for fucking tediously repetitious easy reproduction.

Let it lie for god's sake.

Hugs - I think he was ultimatley banned for something that actually made everyone feel a bit sick, so he had to go.

The point is that when you have someone who is close to the egde, the objectors win every time, there is no option to show support, so I second Asset's suggestion.

Have all the likes in the world for someone like that if you want- they are still going to get banned. Admin might try and explain the root causes but without being party to the source you are still "liking" something without knowing all the facts

As for "like" buttons, aspiring to be ANYthing like facebook these days? ick

FaceBook and Twitter are two Completely different enterties with very little in common with their usage.

People make connections on Facebook with friends, family members, and other people that they care to keep in touch with.

You will probably know most of the people you associate with.

Twitter is less about social friendships.

Twitter allows people to follow important topics, people, and conversations that are relevant or interesting to them. It's a much more detached connection.

You will probably not know or ever meet most of the people you follow or reply to.

"Like"

Fox, lots of people use twitter as you describe, but lots don't.

Either way, I think getting snobby about one of them is a bit rich if you use the other.

I am a regular FB user. I ignore every invite to play games, or join stupid tabloidesque causes, but I enjoy lots of other stuff.

In all fairness bob is right, there's a tendency among most facebook users to accept all friend requests in order not to look rude, even if they're simply old colleagues, people at school you never even talked to then or that bloke down the pub with a wooden leg.

I did a bit of a cull but most of them refriendrequested? (meaning of course I HAD offended them in so doing).

The strealthy way of doing it is to edit the updates you're interested in from that person.

I'm now untroubled by all those awful mawkish pictures of babies with freakish ailments or youtube clips of music I don't like (same can't be said of those damn corporate likes ads though).

Weirdly enough some of those people I didn't like at school have turned out to be really interesting grown ups, and I'm sure there are plenty of them who have muted my incessant bleating about the fluff from my navel.

Of course with the ignore button gone on here you lot are screwed....mwa hah ha haHAAHAHAHAH

    • Hi, I went to the council's planning portal to look at the application, and I encourage others to look at it. It looks like a pleasant building, with thoughtful landscaping. as Pugwash said, the big oak would be retained, only two smaller trees are supposed to be cut, one of which is already dead according to the Tree Survey. It sounds like 38 people in great need of it will gain supported housing thanks to this development, a very positive change. Of course a solution has to be found for the 3 who will need to find other accommodation during the works, but that doesn't seem enough of a reason to oppose the development. The current building is 4 stories, so I would be surprised if one extra storey was considered objectionable, especially considering the big oak stands between the building and the neighbours' back gardens and the fact that the neighbours it's backing onto are all 5 stories houses themselves or only have blank walls facing the building. In the context where affordable housing is sorely missing, a 100% supported housing development is great news. Personally I've never seen a less objectionable planning request
