Wifi file transfer app/software

IS there a single app/piece of software (that works) that I can install on a Windows PC, and phones/tablets running iOS and Android, that enables two-way transfer of any kind of file between all the devices using my home wifi?

Not 'any sort of file' but mainly because uncracked tablets tend to be a bit antsy about alowing unfettered access to their filesystem.

It's a useful tool and you can always delete the file from dropbox when you have finished with it

really? shows how much I use it. I thopught the point of it was that you have a cloud repository and you acn choose what you want to acess on any of your devices rather than synching all files to all devices, would seem a bit pointless if this is the case.

ftp will do it.

dropbox syncs SPECIFIED FILES/Directory not entire device unless you ask it to.

or google and microsoft have their cloud storage solutions and make it easy to share/store files but then your are dependant on an internet connection.

Thanks all. Last question - has anyone used dropbox specifically for moving photos fromn iphone to PC and music files from PC to iphone? Some of the reviews suggest that uploading pics from iphone can be veeeery slooooow.

it's not fast that's for sure - in fact veeeery slow sounds about right

however, I never sit down "to do it" and end up hanging around - it just goes about it's business whilst I'm doing something else

As for copying them back to another device like a PC - why bother. Safer and tidier to just access dropbox from the Pc surely?

As for music files from pc to phone via dropbox.. 1 or 2 maybe but many more? hmmmm

for music files I'm using subsonic.

You set up a server on your home pc, and then you can stream it via browsers or ios/android apps and can configure it to allow users to download files too.

OK, so while we're on the subject, any recommendations for a wireless audio receiver to stream music from aforementioned PC and other devices to an old school amp & speakers? I don't want to spend ?serious on a fancy Sonos system, but I want something better than Bluetooth streaming.

Airport Express. ?75 - bosh. Works really well.

Most computers suffer from crap sound as the chip is soldered onto the motherboard, the signal then has to travel across the board for processing. it picks up EMI (electromagnetic-interference) along the way resulting in crackly sound, couple this with your average 192Kbs MP3 file with a low end driver (realtek AC 97 most rigs use) and you end up with garbage (at best).

If you have a decent amp you could fit a dedicated sound card on a spare PCI slot on your pc and use the line in and line out terminals on the amp

this is what I use and this has a breakout cable with a midi interface (musical instruments) and spdif (optical) port.

I picked mine up on ebay for ?40,

That's correct put you own HDD's in or if you have an old PC laying around you could always re-purpose it , and use open source NAS software http://www.freenas.org/
