"dropbox syncs between all devices that your account is running on "

really? shows how much I use it. I thopught the point of it was that you have a cloud repository and you acn choose what you want to acess on any of your devices rather than synching all files to all devices, would seem a bit pointless if this is the case.

I thought the former dave, but I could be wrong.

You could use a NAS (network attached storage) server and store all files to that and then allow access for all of your devices. http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/network-storage/1283161/zyxel-nsa320

With a powerful CPU and sufficient memory, the ZyXEL NSA320 2-Bay Power Media Server can quickly transfer, backup and stream large multimedia files at the same time. Its superior data read/write rate is up to four times faster than most generic network storage appliances. The NSA320 also handles multiple simultaneous 1080p high-definition streams to different UPnP and DLNA-certified devices such as Microsoft XBOX360, Sony PS3 and DLNA TV in every room at home. The NSA320 features rich server technologies for multimedia sharing. Acting as an iTunes server, SqueezeCenter, personal blog and photo album server, the NSA320 can simplify streaming and sharing multimedia on PCs, laptops and SqueezeBoxes. With the NTFS drivers built-in, the NSA320 provides high-speed data transfer rate (read/write rate) for NTFS-formatted external hard drives. It efficiently saves time to back up your data, photos, music and videos among your PC, NSA and external hard drives.

or google and microsoft have their cloud storage solutions and make it easy to share/store files but then your are dependant on an internet connection.

it's not fast that's for sure - in fact veeeery slow sounds about right

however, I never sit down "to do it" and end up hanging around - it just goes about it's business whilst I'm doing something else

As for copying them back to another device like a PC - why bother. Safer and tidier to just access dropbox from the Pc surely?

As for music files from pc to phone via dropbox.. 1 or 2 maybe but many more? hmmmm

OK, so while we're on the subject, any recommendations for a wireless audio receiver to stream music from aforementioned PC and other devices to an old school amp & speakers? I don't want to spend ?serious on a fancy Sonos system, but I want something better than Bluetooth streaming.

Most computers suffer from crap sound as the chip is soldered onto the motherboard, the signal then has to travel across the board for processing. it picks up EMI (electromagnetic-interference) along the way resulting in crackly sound, couple this with your average 192Kbs MP3 file with a low end driver (realtek AC 97 most rigs use) and you end up with garbage (at best).

If you have a decent amp you could fit a dedicated sound card on a spare PCI slot on your pc and use the line in and line out terminals on the amp

this is what I use and this has a breakout cable with a midi interface (musical instruments) and spdif (optical) port.

I picked mine up on ebay for ?40,

That's correct put you own HDD's in or if you have an old PC laying around you could always re-purpose it , and use open source NAS software http://www.freenas.org/

Easy enough project!!

    • Wow, never had a disappointing meal there since they opened.. guess like every establishment, depends on the chef.. All for allowing an off day - good of you to post.. much better than chains - had awful service at Gail’s for eg..be it cake and tea or a meal.. They are so nice and accommodating..
    • "I tried Viet Flavour and was disappointed.  Their summer rolls especially were not at all good, stodgy and flavourless.  Pho-OK.  I'm hoping it will get better " Back in June I posted as above.  I am glad to report that either the first time I went the restaurant was having an off day, or they have upped their game.  I ordered the same things.  The summer roll was exactly as it should be, and had a lovely dipping sauce. The Pho was delicious.  My brother who was with me wanted to give it 10/10 but I always think you should leave room for improvement so gave it 9/10.  Staff were lovely.  I am so glad because I love Vietnamese food and now think I have a very good one just round the corner.
    • So do I, and I started it!!!  I have changed title.
    • Absolute crickets  starmer is pretty useless and clearly unpopular.  But it’s hard to quite fathom why when compared to his peers  should Farage get elected he will be even more useless, deeply unpleasant and wi destabilise the country in all manner of ways. But people will still give him a pass they won’t starmer    see also:  Trump vs Biden
