We've had a moany post about a two year old incident citing toddlers in - gasp! - Pizza Express at 6pm on a Sunday, I think we have reached the apogee of anecdotal evidence.

This thread is starting to parody itself. Now, what other annoying groups of people can we start to include? Toddlers with dogs off lead? Single work-from-home cyclists? Let's do it!

affluence may play a part but I think cultural reasons - a LOT more travel and wider diet of TV shows - have contributed much more to this

people eat out more and take kids out more because they have seen the rest of the world and prefer that to the relatively staid lifestyle which was the norm in the gloomy, wet islands congealed on the brink of the Atlantic pit

Why do so many parents around here seem to think it is ok to cycle on the pavement with their children? I often see men and women cycling with their not even small children. Recently saw man with his son with about aged 11 and when I asked him why he said it was ok because he was with his son! This was on Grove Vale. Take your kids to the park to teach them to cycle and do not use the pavements.

I know I was being slightly mischeivious in sharing this thread with the Family Room, but I think it would genuinely be nice if we couold discuss certain things on this forum without every one with kids immediately going on the defencive, and everyone without kids immediately making sweeping statements about parents and kids.

Early posts from Nanny, Mike P, LondonMix and Pickle were refreshing to read, and reflect how I really feel as a parent who looks at the behaviour of some other parents as shocking.

I know it's not just parents but when queried they say it's ok to do it as they are with their child. That means they know it is wrong but think it is somehow justified by being with a child - this is a new thing to me - new as in the last five years or so. Have child - break law and cause problems for pedestrians. What lesson is this teaching their child?

I think it is worth mentioning as perhaps there are a large number of other parents out there with children coming up to cycling age who somehow think this is acceptable behaviour.

I did say we knew we were beaten :) I love a good PE and the many we have been to in the past have had a good mix of ages if erring on the kiddy side, the Dulwich one was surreal though in being like one giant kids party, albeit the groupings were evidently separate.

We haven't been back and indeed won't in the future - no worries though as I am confident that they will remain packed to the gills.

I have seen parents riding with their kids on the pavement, but not as many as I've seen cycling without kids.

For the record, for all adults who think it's ok to cycle on the pavement, I think it's ok to push you off your bike. Consider this fair warning.

Edited as I wasn't a fast enough typer, and my post didn't make sense.

The Dulwich one is particularly child friendly. I remember going there once in my pre children life, so obviously I had a stinking hangover. After about 10 seconds in there I had to move outside. It was a cold day and spitting rain, but that was preferrable for my head that morning.

Do it, RosieH!

    • Hope it's not Covid onset. If you google for just the 'cheese and pumpkin seed crispbread' you can compare ingredient lists in full at leisure  I see it's only Kargs that mention emmenthal!  Even then, I don't actually see a universal appreciable price difference in the Kargs offering.  Sainsbury's, for example, claims to have them at £2.70. Mme La Comtesse, if I may interject before I leave ...   I purchase my almonds from Messrs Lidl.   There I find the Turkish ones, sold for baking, do tend to be not as tasty as those sold in a big colour branded package for snacking at maybe a small extra cost.  But perhaps the baking contributes?
    • I think the quality of a lot of M&S products has gone down recently - understandable, the cost of many ingredients and labour has risen enormously and even as a premium brand, they still have to find a price-point which consumers will pay, hence cheaper ingredients and bulking agents. Crispbread is really easy to make yourself, if you're so inclined, and quick because you don't have to do the whole proving shebang - plus you can add more cheese and seeds, and swap out for seeds you prefer. Aldi is great for raw nuts and seeds at low prices for baking.
    • Their food is lovely, but unfortunately the waiting time for it is sometimes so long, even when they don't seem particularly busy, that we no longer go there. We used to just accept it, but seeing people who came in long after us getting their food before us was the last straw after we had waited well over half an hour, if memory serves. It might have been nearly an hour, but I can't remember exactly, it was a while ago. We paid for our drinks (which had come quite quickly) and went to have lunch elsewhere. We reckoned we would get our food quicker that way. We were very  hungry by this time! It's a shame, because we would like to support them as they are a small local business with great food, but there seems to be some problem on the kitchen side (we were assured that our order had been given to the kitchen as soon as we made it - we asked earlier, as we thought maybe it had been forgotten, but no).
    • This is a bit niche 🤣 I like  Kargs cheese and pumpkin seed crispbread, but it's quite expensive even when it's on offer. So when M&S started their own brand,  I used to buy that sometimes. It was different from Kargs, but ok. Then it disappeared from the shelves for ages. I assumed this was due to the supply problems after M&S  were hacked into. So I was quite pleased recently to see it had returned. But it now tastes revolting (in my opinion). I have no idea what was in it before, as I had no reason to look, but on checking the ingredient list now,  the second after wheat flour  is cornflour (?!), and it's also got palm fat, rapeseed oil, cheese powder and potato starch. And some other stuff. Plus some  actual cheese. I can't find anything online to say the recipe was  changed, so maybe my taste buds have suddenly become more sensitive, but after reading this, I'm appalled M&S are selling this rubbish. Has anyone else noticed any changes? I'm assuming they waited some time so customers would have used up what they had and couldn't make a direct comparison, but that might be a hideous slur (if so, apologies to M&S). Kargs use sunflower oil, and have  none of these other weird ingredients. I shall be gritting my teeth and buying only Kargs from now on. Disclaimer 1 : I don't have any shares in Kargs. I wish I did, I might get a discount! Disclaimer 2:  Yes I have many better things to do with my time than post on here moaning about crispbread, but I am having a tea break (just preempting another attack from those people who haven't got better things to do with THEIR  time than post on here to randomly attack other posters for no apparent reason).
