This bit of Goodrich is different. It was narrowed by half FOR SAFETY years and years ago. Since then traffic has grown and the lorries are heavier, more frequent and more likely to come down not knowing IT?S HALF WIDTH. How?s that for SAFETY?

Also, the school told the council it didn?t have the resources to manage a barrier, which I think is fair enough.

Anyway, it?s in someone else?s hands now higher up than council level. Watch this space!

Brakes are the food of the devil and responsible for the same pub meals from Cornwall to Cumbria. As they are owned by an American firm they will be one of the first to sell chlorinated chicken. Surely in ED schools can get their food delivered by cargo bike or simply grow their own. Disclaimer, these comments are purely in jest.

Our collective views on Brakes as a company aside (Malumbu I share you thoughts entirely - how dare schools not be using cargo bikes ;-)) - this is not a huge lorry trying to find it's way around the backstreets using Waze it is a lorry delivering (I presume the school meals) to the school that now has nowhere to stop due to the bollards that have been put in in front of the school, I presume these bollards are a pre-cursor to the Goodrich closure being put in?

Did Goodrich ever agree to the measures that are about to go in? I heard they said to the council that they weren't what the school wanted - or was that because the gate would need to be manually operated by someone from the school?

Southwark Cyclists? tracker, which I came across earlier, says plans have changed. There was a decision made in favour of closure but no TMO seems to have been put in place. There is another batch of schools streets due to be announced so could be in that.

Wow.....that's a well organised lobby group. Difficult for residents to work out what's going on but Southwark Cyclists have all the answers.....I wonder how they get such detailed info.....hmmmmmmm.....?????

Has anyone dug a little deeper looking at how intertwined these lobby groups are with the council? We know they are being consulted on every closure but does it go further than that?

It's one of the largest (if not the largest) primary schools in the borough -- how can they possibly not have the resources ? Especially given every other school nearby seems to manage it. And, in any case, if child safety is the priority, then they ought to be helped to find those resources !

And where do you expect these heavy lorries to go ? Down the other two sides of the school, where the main entrances lie ? So it's fine to have children endangered, just as long as the traffic isn't going past your front door ?

Presumably the idea is to "re-educate" the parents from Alleyns who use Townley road when dropping kids ?

With a secondary objective of income from all the PCNs, guessing council finances are in dire straits due to Covid ?

I heard Southwark Cyclists hosted the last Bilderberg Group meeting at which COVID was planned.

Haha- I think you?re onto something there.

Alternatively maybe they just read all the documents published by Southwark..

It?s definitely one of those things though, just hard to work out which!

Ha ha...if they have managed to find and read all the documents by themselves they deserve a medal as Southwark doesn't make it easy to find the information.....;-)

Perhaps during one of their regular "Are you happy with these road closures/how would you like us to amend our road closures our great and magnificent cycling group" consultation meetings they slipped them a brown envelope, winked and said...that's where we have hidden the documents we don't want the constituents to find!!! ;-)

...and then went and published it on the internet so that anyone could access it, for free?

It is genuinely weird to see people (who are presumably otherwise sensible, average human beings) making up conspiracy theories about a local traffic scheme in suburban London.

Many thanks DKHB.. your erudite contribution to this debate is so welcome!

Anyway, back to business...see how Cllr Newens grandstands to her neighbours how she is working to get traffic out of the village quicker to cause congestion on EDG and onto Lordship Lane....hurrah, she says, now the problem is Cllr McAsh's...

She doesn't seem too keen to engage people in a debate about the displacement....see some of the comments..

It seems to me that these measures, along with Congestion Charge changes, are the Tory's plan to make Londoners disillusioned with Labour Councils. I was appalled when I saw BJ on TV saying that the funding crisis in TfL was down to the present mayor's mismanagement. He later retracted the statement, but the lies show the intent.

Southwark has not implemented the phase 2(?) measures yet and, even when they do you will still be able to turn right from EDG into Townley. If they are consistent and keep north and south bound symmetrical this means they will probably introduce a phase 3 to divert traffic along EDG and LL by closing off that right turn (as per the OHS proposals) but this has not happened yet. I guess the residents and business's on EDG and LL will be keeping their fingers crossed this will be delayed as long as possible.

So basically we/ van drive down Townley, avoiding fines, between 10am - 3pm.

Has anyone tried/tested this pls ?

Just don't wanna get caught-out later..

yes you will be able to.

Not sure the cameras are in yet anywhere - Cllr Newens is putting pressure on TFL to get them in this week in the Village but nothing had gone in this morning.

I suspect TFL will be needing to look at how road signage will need to change in other places as they need to ensure people are aware of the closures - for example, you have to alert traffic on the A205 signage that there are going to be times when you now can't get through the Village.

Cllr Newens will be desperate for these to go in before the school return as it will likely be chaos if they go in in the middle of a school week.

    • In just two days, we’ll take to the streets to show Donald Trump that he and his politics are not welcome here. On Saturday the global far-right mobilised their biggest protest for decades. We want to show that supporters of Trump and fascism are not the majority – far from it. Here are all the details you need for the day. The march assembles at Portland Place, near the BBC, at 2pm (see assembly blocs below). After speeches here, the march will move off at 3pm. It will then march down Regent St, through Piccadilly Circus, on Whitehall (past Downing St) to our rally at Parliament Square. The rally at Parliament Square will begin around 5pm and finish at 7pm. If you can’t make it to the march, feel free to join the rally after work! (Nearest tube: Westminster). The short, accessible version of the route assembles at the top of Whitehall (SW1A 2DY) at 4.30pm to march to Parliament Square for 5pm. You may also prefer to just join the rally directly at Parliament Square.  Join a bloc – and make friends! Our movement is diverse, and various elements are forming ‘blocs’ on the march to emphasise their visual presence collectively. You can join these blocs or form up behind them:   A) Palestine, near BBC, W1A 1AA B) Climate, W1B 1NS C) Amnesty, around junction with New Cavendish St, W1B 1LU D) Migrants' rights, W1B 1LS E) Jewish bloc, W1B 1QQ F) Ukraine, around junction with Weymouth St, W1B 1JL G) Europe, W1B 1NR More stewards still needed Stewards are a crucial part of keeping the protest safe for everyone to participate. They are a visible point of contact for attendees who may need directions or other assistance. Experience of stewarding is useful but it's also fine if you haven't done it before. You will be issued with a hi-vis jacket and briefed in advance and on the day.  Sign up to be a steward Staying comfortable on the day The demonstration lasts for several hours, so we suggest you should:     Bring a bottle of water and snacks (and eat beforehand)     Charge your phone fully the night before, and bring a portable charger if you can     Go to the loo beforehand (really!)     Buddy up with someone, or stick together as a group – it can be hard to find people easily if people wander off     Coming alone? Protests can be a great place to meet like-minded people. If you feel unsure, you can always talk to a steward     Consider the weather: bring a waterproof jacket or wear suncream where necessary     Wear comfortable clothes and footwear, and use our accessible route if you need to (see above) Bring your friends and family on Wednesday. Let’s make this massive! In solidarity, Stop Trump Coalition
