Helicopter flying around

I just don?t understand what would warrant a police helicopter to be circling for an hour. Surely an on-ground team would be better at this time of night.....but what would I know....

An elderly lady with dementia has been missing form her home in Penge - it's been a couple of days now - they've been using a helicopter to try to locate her. It could be that.

It was over Turney Road for quite a while....I hope they found what they were looking for...

It depends on what sort of search they were undertaking, but if they were using thermal imaging to find, e.g. a child or an adult who was static (i.e. a victim rather than a perpetrator) they might take some time doing this. Assuming they were waiting for any 'possibles' to be checked on the ground then this could increase the flying/ circling time necessary.

My default position on the cops is skepticism, but helicopters are so few and so rare even I doubt they'd keep it flying around for something pointless. It's probably cold comfort when you're knackered, but the imposition on you would have been for a good reason. Hope you can make it through the day okay!

If the helicopter was looking for someone I'm almost certain it would have direct contact with police on the ground so that the person could be picked up fairly quickly. The cost of launching and flying a helicopter is very costly so I believe there must have been good reason.
