One Dulwich Campaign Update | 23 Mar New government guidance on LTNs As a result of the government’s research report on Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (Southwark refused to take part), the Department for Transport has introduced new statutory guidance for councils. The guidance says that local authorities should not impose LTNs in the face of strong local opposition (two-thirds of those living and working in Dulwich who responded to the 2020 public consultation were against them). Where they are introduced, councils should regularly review LTNs, ensuring they keep meeting their objectives, aren’t adversely affecting other areas, and are locally supported. The Dulwich LTNs fail on all these points. The guidance also says that where the community is not supportive, authorities should introduce changes to address community concerns or remove the scheme. Dulwich Village junction redesign approved Cllr James McAsh has approved the proposed redesign of the junction, even though two-thirds of those who responded are critical or not in favour. The new design blocks direct access to Calton Avenue from Dulwich Village for emergency vehicles – they must now take the longer route via Court Lane. One Dulwich Campaign Update | 12 Jan It’s been nearly four years since Southwark Council announced the Dulwich LTNs, and since One Dulwich was founded. Since then, the Council has ignored the results of every consultation, the impact of traffic restrictions on businesses and people living on boundary roads, and the difficulties that disabled and other vulnerable residents have been forced to endure. We’re not the only ones. The most recent LTN to hit the headlines is in Streatham, where residents are suffering the same consequences as us – displaced traffic, delayed buses, wrecked businesses and increased pollution outside schools on boundary roads. Meanwhile, please help us keep up the pressure on Southwark Council by taking part, if you haven’t already, in the consultation on the redesign of the Dulwich Village junction (Phase 3). We recommend filling in the survey but letting the Council know what you think of their failure to respond to feedback from the local community in the last consultation by ignoring Question 6 and answering “1 (not at all)” to questions 7 – 12. And do please use the comment boxes to remind them that the community rejected the closure of the junction in the original consultation. The deadline is 17 January 2024. Dulwich Village junction has to be reopened. Hundred of thousands of pounds waisted on the vanity project called ltn and yet the pavements near Wood Vale have not been cleared once this Autumn. No surprise the councills are going bankrupt.

I agee with One Dulwich - they represent my views and concerns. I don't drive, don't own a car - never have - and I walk a lot. I live on a main road where the traffic has been very much worst since the so called ltn was introduced: more traffic, more noise and more air pollution. Neither southwark council nor cycling groups care.

Just walking from Forest Hill station, along South Circular / LL: traffic stationary and not moving at all - the usual and so much worst since so-called ltn was introduced in Dulwich. I wonder what cllr leeming have to say - you live on a main road so you die ten years earlier because of air pollution? How is southwark council proposing to address this?

Mostly naive. They are way too polite also.

This is too easy: out of touch with real world? dangerous hardline ideologue? pandering to the rich of East Dulwich? manipulating data? bulling TfL staff? my way or the highway? if you live on South Circular you can die from air pollution for all I care? I get it but In which case, where do you want the serious, real life issues / discussions to go to? Most of my friends do not post here (and I've looked it up much less frequently ever since the change)- but that doesn't mean the problem has gone away. Perhaps it is time to create a separate place / topic / folder for real problems and serious issues. And isn't it high time to reprimand Malumbu who doesn't even live in Southwark, left alone Dulwich but is constantly spamming here?

All I know is that the day after LTN was introduced in East Dulwich - especially after Dulwich Village closure - the traffic tripled in front of my flat. I remember talking with neighbours - we thought there must've been a truly serious incident in the area for the traffic to go this bad. There are no words to describe this ltn idea - how on Earth anyone with even tiny tiny bit of common sense could ever assume that closing roads can force anyone to stop driving? I do not drive - never owned a car and never driven. I walk. Talked to tones of people and not one of them said they stopped driving because the roads have been closed. It's madness - it's like telling someone from Eastern Europe the communism is great. What Southwark council has done is truly scandalous - pandering to cycling lobby, greenwashing, bullying TfL staff, ignoring outcome of the consultation, shoving off people living on the boundary roads with - now - increased traffic and air & noise pollution because of the so-called ltn, having no proof to show that so-called ltn work - and constituents money wasted on all this

I sincerely hope this is the beginning of the end of LTN vanity project which did exactly ZERO to improve, well, anything.

@Admin: before you move a thread to 'lounge' you should exercise your right to reprimend people. Someone who admits not living in Dulwich, left alone Southwark should not be commentig on how the LTNs affect the local residents.
