I would be happy with a 'babysitting in return for putting up some shelves'/'cooking a dinner party for a lift and back

to Heathrow' level of swopping.

Small jobs can sometimes be the hardest to sort out if you don't have the skills [ie, I know where to find a plumber, or

a builder, but if I just need help with putting up some pictures, [just moved house so have several rooms-full], then

maybe you would like my coq au vin..?

I really like the idea, and used to be involved in the 'brights' scheme when i lived in brighton. What i found as a therapist is that everyone wants a treatment, but my needs such as diy were harder to receive and i was therefore always in credit and couldn't spend my brights. In my opinion, better to do the swaps same day if possible (obviously that is not always possible). I am interested though if it could be carried out like that.
Thanks JMT - that sounds interesting. I have PM'd you! I think that the idea has both problems and possibilities associated with it = anyone else with any personal experience of being a member of such a scheme, or who would possibly be interested in joining?

I love this idea also. I have few skills but could be useful but as a household we have loads of skills we could swap!

Let's face it, red wine only goes so far as a currency here!

We (individually or as a collective?) would have to think of things like liability (should someone walk into someone's house and accidentally damage themselves or someone or something in the house), and so on. Or just agree to be sensible and take responsibility!

Should we start a new section on the forum?

Hi Peckham Rose, and others -

Thanks for your enthusiasm!

I agree with you that there are lots of possibilities that would benefit many in the community, as well as spreading the community spirit itself - but also issues / difficulties to be considered -

Hence call for anyone with experience in this area to get in touch, please.

If admin would consider a separate section, in principle at least, it would be great to hear from you too -

but I think that the various issues need careful consideration first.

Do get in touch if you feel you can help / advise - thanks all!

Hi

You could have a look at streetbank:

http://www.streetbank.com/splash

It can do the Freegle/Freecycle thing as well as loaning equipment and skills swap. I'd love to see it take off but, like all online forums, it needs a critical mass of active members to make it really work. Just like EDF, really.

    • We first used Aaron's services for a badly damaged wall that had gone back to the brickwork due to water ingress from the bay window. We found Aaron initially through recommendation and were very fortunate to do so as we already had a couple of quotes from trades found online that were just ridiculous, clearly just a rip off, so not sure what we would of done without that recommendation. We have just had more work completed by him, two walls skimmed and more comprehensive work where the brickwork was exposed around the fireplace. The wall above the fireplace was the original plaster finish and in good condition but the original plan was to have the whole wall replastered but we couldnt get the tv off the wall bracket so asked Aaron if he could just plaster up to the tv, not ideal but not much choice. Aaron didnt have any issue with that atall and more than happy to do it. Amazingly the join between the new plaster and old plaster is invisible. Perfect feather edge finish.  Aaron is very pleasant natured, he turns up on time, he doesnt mess about and gets on with the job. He works in a very clean manner. He doesnt try and inflate the job to make it more expensive. We found him to be extremely competitively priced. Both jobs have been finished to an excellent standard. The finish is so smooth its like glass. We will certainly be using his services again in the future.     Aaron Manser 07773 410661
    • Yes, and now there's a leak further down Barry Road. Two men from Thames came and stood there looking at it and then went away. Over 24 hours later water still pouring out and no sign of any action to repair
    • Thank you, will check this out.
