I agree about simple skills exchange!! I am definitely NOT looking for therapy [as bodsier posted] or heavy duty work.

Just some simple, friendly, one-to-one 'help each other out' type of stuff.

I imagine there must be LOADS of it out there.

And, as others have said..maybe keep it to EDF?..a simple exchange of simple skills?

Can we have a section on EDF??? Can we??

I am writing from The Great Exhibition Pub and think that your idea of a local skills swap is brilliant. We are actually at the moment planning a Random Acts of Kindness Week to take place on the 11-17th February, and think that this could be a great addition to the events that we have planned.

We were thinking of hosting a skills swap board, where you can come and post up the skills you have or want to swap? Any thoughts you have on this would be appreciated.

Definitely!

Will you be starting a thread on here about it? Very keen to know more :)

  • 3 weeks later...

We have today launched a Local Skills Swap wall here at The Great Exhibition. We are very excited about this concept, and already have two pledges!! First a private tuition in either Buisness or ICT GCSE from the head teacher of a local school, and a Clarinet, Saxophone or music theory lesson.

We really hope to get as many people involved in this as possible, so please do come in and make your skill pledges!

I think this is a great ideas guys; I have added to the wall via the staff; 2x1 hour personal training sessions at our private personal training studio on Overhill Road. Speak to the Great Exhibition staff for details.

The music lessons sound great I've always wanted to learn to play an instrument!

Hi

Just to mention that Language Lounge has been running since 2008, we have had some fantastic language teaching offered by lovely people, we have seven languages on offer at the moment, next sessions start in March, please see the Language Lounge thread in the What's On section if you're interested.

If you would like me to add a line about your scheme to our mailing list, please let me know.

    • I have two pillows we bought to try out - used once or twice - but didn't work out for us. Here's one: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/rosenskaerm-ergonomic-pillow-side-back-sleeper-30444369/ This is the other: https://www.ikea.com/bh/en/p/mjoelkklocka-ergonomic-pillow-side-back-sleeper-60446767/ (they don't stock it in the UK any more - I think) You're welcome to both/either (free). We were going to post them on Freecycle as we're moving and downsizing.
    • I'm looking for a comfortable double (no spring) mattress, a duvet and pillows in good condition. Please get in touch if you have any of these things! 🙂
    • We are talking Sunday not Saturday! Is Saray the one opposite Brockwell Park? Think it is - always quiet when we have been there but we eat early - forgot that one. Thanks. Food was ok not bad not good but staff are nice - that was six  months ago. Ohh excellent as you are a veggie too.. Will check out Dai Due Fratelli - thanks. No Thai I am referring too is up a few shops from Oxfam Book Shop…
    • I think the Italian you are talking about was the old pizza place which is now closed and chicken shop in it's place? There is a nice Thai restaurant called Chern Thai on Grove Vale that should be open at lunchtime Saturday. I am veggie too btw. Peachy Goat in Herne Hill is good, but depends on the ask as it's kinda burgers and pasta and not the cheapest. I tried the Turkish in Herne Hill, Saray, round the corner Saturday before last and will be quiet but the owner is super sweet and it's not expensive. If you are happy with pizza / pasta, you could also do Dai Due Fratelli which is good food, friendly and attentive service at good prices on Lordship Lane.
