> believe what they are fed on the TV without doing some checks for themselves

This is, unfortunately, the standard line repeated by conspiracy theorists and assorted sceptics these days. "Check for yourself". "Do some research". "The mainstream media is lying to you". This belief that you have a higher level of wisdom and insight than the rest of us... I'm afraid to say that it is almost always the Dunning-Kruger effect at work.

I think we're all adults and realize that the pharma industry is not a charity. And like all large businesses, there are some shady practices now and again. We are not blinkered fools. That doesn't mean it's in their interest to poison us.

> believe what they are fed on the TV without doing some checks for themselves

A favourite line from my now ex lodger. Depressingly enough, his main source of alterative info was Youtube.

Fair enough, like I said to him, it's not as if they let just anyone on there...oh...

The Media have reported people have died after taking the vaccine not that many compared to the amount of Covid but not none. If the Vaccine turns out not to be safe and effective this is the misinformation.

vegancow / uplandrd2020 - why do you create 2x user accounts which run concurrent conversations ?

Genuine question.

If you (both ?) vanish now I?ll understand better why you think it?s necessary.

Same Household, not the same person

I have not said the Pandemic is not real or the Vaccine has a chip in it or that we are being poisoned which of course sounds like nonsense. I have had a family member spend 10 days in the hospital and nearly not make it so I get it is dangerous and real.

What I have questioned is my worry over the long-term effects of a new drug and the accuracy of the number of people being counted as Covid deaths.

Currently, the count is based on anyone who died for any reason within 28 days of a Covid positive test. (it says that at the bottom of the death count slide on the BBC news every night)

There is a big difference between dying with Covid or of Covid. If you currently die of a Heart attack and have mild symptoms of covid it is recorded as a Covid death.

I would like to know how many deaths have actually been caused by Covid19 (as opposed to any other reason) within 28 days of a positive test.

If you read the hundreds of comments on this article, you will see many people who say the death of a family member was recorded as Covid when it was not. Why? The lockdowns are based on these numbers so it matters. Lockdown are causing suffering for many so it does matter, we are not all so lucky to be home working on full pay on Teams, doing Zoom Pilates and ordering Ocado.

I don't resent my middle-class Privileged life, I love it but do think about others.

? 55 in the US, 22 in UK and 29 in Norway known to have died after taking the vaccine?

so would l, they say they died shortly after the vaccine, not of the vaccine, an autopsy would be useful.

we finally agree on something, accurate data.

Preliminary results indicate the Pfizer vaccine does prevent transmission.

So what exactly are you trying to discuss here, is it either the number of deaths from people who have had the vaccine OR the number of deaths of those who sadly have died as a result of Covid 19?

I'm guessing it's hard to tell the difference between those who have died within 28 days of testing positive and those who have died from some other cause where Covid may be a secondary reason for death, a bit similar to when someone dies and pneumonia is a secondary cause of death.

You think about others so much you are prepared to pass on the virus to them by remaining unvaccinated.

It's my choice and there are many who feel the same way, you may think it's selfish but at the moment I'm hardly likely to pass It on Via a Zoom call.

Weren't those 22 in the UK all in the same care home in Basingstoke?

Bearing that in mind, what is more likely?

a) There was a Covid outbreak in the care home, and they tragically received their vaccines too late to save them

b) The vaccine killed 22 people in a single care home. And nobody else in the country.

I mean... this kind of thinking is just idiotic. Someone said above that calling someone an idiot is not cool. Maybe so. But when someone is spreading this kind of dangerous "information", then why mince words?

People like this criticize the rest of us for believing "what we're fed by the mainstream media". When their own sources do not stand up to even superficial scrutiny. The fact that they believe they're smarter than the rest of us would be hilariously ironic.. if it wasn't so dangerous. I am afraid we're currently fighting two pandemics - the other being stupidity.

Mainly to discuss the way Covid deaths are currently counted.

BBC news each night states "Death for any reason within 28 days of a positive test"

Maybe it does not matter if it is possibly tens of thousands wrong by counting ANY type of death, I think it matters to the families or maybe not. We will have to agree to disagree on this small detail.

    • OMFG is it possible for the council to do anything without a bunch of armchair experts moaning about it? The library refurb is great news, as it's lovely but completely shagged out - the toilets don't even work reliably. Other libraries in the area will be open longer house during the closure. July is a rubbish time to begin a refurb because it's just before the entire construction sector goes on summer holiday, and it would mean delaying the work another 8 months.
