Floor sound proofing

What for? - Is is to reduce general noise between the floors or to reduce footfall noise from teh first floor down to the ground floor?

How much effort and cost are you prepared to spend?

What sort of finish do you want to the floor (carpet, wood, tiles etc)

Bit more information would be useful....

Would recommend a company called soundproofing R us if you want the best solution. I live I a 1st floor flat and had very bad noise transmission between my flat and downstairs.

They pulled up the whole floor, isolated the beams with rubber strips and then fitted a concrete impregnated chipboard before a new floor went on top. No problems since then!

I used Soundproofing R us as well and would thoroughly recommend them. I. like you, own the top and bottom flat and they actually did it as the ceiling of the ground floor flat. Really good work and left the place immaculate. I am really happy with the reduction in noise (I live in the ground floor flat)

Hello

I live on the ground floor and my neighbour has removed the already inadequate soundproofing leaving bare boards. I'm trying to convince her to sound proof the hallway above my bedroom at least so I can get some sleep. Are you able to PM me with a rough idea of what it cost you?

I'm pretty desperate.

Thanks

Herne Hill Guest - Have you tried approaching your freeholder. The lease almost certainly includes a covenant by the owner of the upstairs flat to keep all the floors covered with carpet or other sound proofing material. If she has removed the carpet she will be in breach of the lease and the freeholder can take action to require her to put carpets back down.

    • Let's not forget this is the lowest level of local politics. If McCash really thought his defection could trash the Labour Party nationally, and it was loaded with invective and exhibitionism, then that's pretty much the definition of a "hissy fit"! Scooping the Green nomination for DaWN constituency is also going to be a lot harder for a Marxist arriviste than you suggest. There may be a wave of new, younger Polanski-ites that have joined the Green Party of E&W recently, but it's the long-standing, often retired members of the Party that tend to participate in candidate interview panels and bother voting in selections...
    • They've had 26 years or so of trading, and if anyone deserves decent retirement... In my view they're going out at the top. It's clearly being sold, assuming it all goes through as a very more more than just a going concern.
    • I had heard this was on the cards a while ago, sad, the end of an era, but well done Rod and Tim for stewarding a beacon of excellence for so many years.
    • Both your hopes will be fine, I think. Our waitress will stay on. The downstairs is getting refurbished, and the bar area enlarged, presumably by removing that awkward little 'lobby' by the loos.
