Hi - my bike was stolen out of my back garden on Saturday night (it was a ladies Ridgeback Classic model, black frame with a blue child seat on the back, if anyone sees it!).

The thieves dumped two bikes outside our house and I was wondering if they might belong to anyone local. We have them in our back garden now. One is a Raleigh and the other is a BTwin.

Message me if you think either are yours and we can check further details.

I think robinho would have had to have seen the perp(s) handling both the stolen bike and the two foundlings, for there to be even the slightest possibility of (1) being thought useful.

robinho, you could try searching https://www.bikeregister.com/stolen-bikes for place London and each of the bike makes. The search results seem to be more or less date-ordered, and six months of results fill only two or three pages, so it's not onerous.

Hi,

Yes we had a similar experience on Saturday night, thieves had investigated our bikes but they were locked up, the same evening our neighbour lost a couple of bikes. They seemed to scout around 3am and returned again at 5am, these are roughly the times the thieves were caught on a neighbours camera, the camera footage wouldn't be useful for identification as it was too dark.

It's really annoying and unsettling to have people enter your space, have had a bike stolen 2 years ago.

I hope you get your bike back.

All the best.

Nikki

Can you tell if the scouting seemed to be 'cold', ie speculatively looking in all likely places over a whole range of houses; or did it seem limited to particular locations, possibly based on information they already had?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have reported the theft to the police and they came to see the bikes that were dumped. I have managed to find the owner of the Raleigh bike, but the BTwin is still unclaimed. It is a ladies model, small frame. I hope someone might see this who knows the owner.

    • Yes, that compromise is in not extending the event to two weekends, and keeping it to the one currently.  Yes, I am getting that too, but just go anyway. I intend to.  I will talk to FOPR, and see if there is any interest for a petition from those going to the consultation tm. We just need some volunteers to get together and do the leg work. I've done political party canvassing before, and so can organise a ward by ward schedule. I think it's fair to say that any goodwill some of us had towards working with Gala has gone with this proposed expansion. They are not the same people that started the event with We Are the Fair. At least one of those people actually lived next to the park. The people running things now have no connection to the park or local area and quite frankly are taking the p*** now. Might be worth officially demanding to know where the money the council gets from the festival is actually spent as well.
    • It's a fantastic little place
    • Sadly we need young people from developing countries with higher birth rates to do the work that Brits wont do, including many jobs in health and social care.  How you square this with minimum wages to get work visas I don't know.  A different subject for another thread.   Shortage of skilled workers is another topic.  We could return to the fact that young people from Europe no longer come to the UK for a limited time, to do both skilled and unskilled jobs, but that would bring us back to Brexit and the crazy decision we made as a nation. Some nice analysis by Sky News, tend not to use them as a rule but was surprised by the quality of this piece: https://news.sky.com/story/how-many-illegal-migrants-are-in-britain-the-key-numbers-driving-the-immigration-debate-13428405
    • Would be good if they turned it into something that is social/community driven for housing - old and young mix together. Let’s face it, dearth of social anything relating to housing… if that.could  be combined with say, work area and gardening and cafe for all, everyone wins.. Dream on.. yea… certainly don’t need more large supermarkets, kitchen stores, Argos etc… Haven’t had time to look at plans…
