Sliced corn beef is for quitters KK. If everyone went down that route where would be the incentive for the likes of those gauchos at Fray Bentos to put the gear in a proper modern tin with a ring pull. The packet stuff doesn't have the taste or the keeping power of the tinned variety which can be stored up for the time when I may have to batten down the hatches in the event of civil unrest or extreme terrorist action. Besides the pre-sliced stuff removes my inalienable human right to choose my own meat width for a sandwich.

And that's a right I will only give up when you prise my corned beef and Branston sandwich from my cold, dead fingers.

My original complaint was about the key and welded on ribbon apparatus that the packers of the good beef see fit to continue using. I'm all for tradition but a modern up to date ring pull would be a boon to the busy survivalist.

Otherwise my whole post would have been some sort of exercise in pointlessness, wouldn't it?

Now you're talking *Bob*. I genuinely enjoy a nice salmon vinegar cucumber with a smear of salad cream sandwich. As for the Princess ham, I'm a 'jelly on' man myself, but in the tradition of Jack Spratt and his missus it would obviously work out well for both of us.

I'm afraid for me PGC that Spam has always been a taste I've not managed to acquire, though Christ knows my schools didn't stint in their efforts to indoctrinate me into it.

Though I may be persuaded to go down the gherkin route as you suggest.

That's not the half of it. Hunt for red october - Russian Submarine bloke - Scottish accent. Several bond films - English Spy - Scottish accent, Highlander - "Spanish Peacock" (although for some reason I think there was Egyptian in there too - Scottish accent!!!

What if?


This had been posted by a man. An alleged breach of sexual etiquette in the matter of oral sex had taken place and his response was to bite the 'offending' female's genital area to the extent that she would probably not be 'feeling at all well' the next day. At the very least I'm pretty sure that people on the forum would be lining up to punch his lights out, whilst offering support and sympathy to the victim. At most he'd find himself being questioned by the police for committing a serious sexual assault.


But that's all hypothetical really, because the odds are he wouldn't dream of posting his actions on a site like this.

I thought he lived in Spain. What exactly did he get knighted for? Anyone know?

      Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.

      Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.

      @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
