Blue Cafe pavement

May just say some of the customers that use this for lunch and various meals are very rude.

The seating outside the cafe is intruding onto the pavement so pedestrians have to walk in the road or cross the

road. I witnessed a elderly couple having to wait so that a dog and chairs had to be moved to let them by.

Over the last 4 years it has got worst and now started again.

I notified the Council if they could look into this, as a drink or meal outside but not at the expense of pedestrians

being in danger. also think of pram and wheelchairs.

If you?re talking about the Blue Brick Cafe in Fellbrigg Road I totally agree. The situation is made worse by customers pushing the tables together so the pavement is totally blocked to passers by who have no option but to walk in the road.

The pavement immediately outside some shops/pubs/cafes is a part of the businesses premises: this is not the case here, it is all part of the general public?s right of way.

A great compromise would be for the council to widen the pavement, using funds that are available for such things. That way everyone is better accommodated. Why not suggest this to the owner of the cafe the next time you chat to him/her. I?m assuming you?ve already done that.

Presumably this will only last until may 17? When they can reopen indoors? It would be a shame for it to have to close completely again. Pavement widening would be good too.

If this was just temporary until indoor seating was permitted, I wouldn't have a problem but as OP indicates it's been going on for a few years. The road is already very narrow, not sure how road widening would work.

OK but I don't think that would leave room for 2 way traffic. The cafe management cannot be unaware of the problems, they're just hoping to get away with setting up a cafe on a pedestrian through way.

The Blue Brick Cafe is a lovely little local business who have been busy distributing free veggie meals to frontline workers at Kings during lockdown. Like all independent cafes they have suffered enormously over the last 12 months. Personally I'm just happy to see them open again and making a bit of money. Have a heart, people.

As intimated in my other post, it is always (nearly) best to have a conversation first. Why not, those who don't feel comfortable with the current sitation, point out your concerns, offer solutions, and see what happens? Much better than tsk-tsking on a forum like this. (Sometimes you cannot go to the person in question, but this can't be the case here, where a phone call, note-drop, etc. could easily be done.)

There are DYL outside the cafe so it looks as though the pavement could be widened here without even losing car parking. For those saying that it wouldn't leave room for 2 way traffic - the widened pavement would be less wide than the space taken up by a car parked on the road, so would be stepped in from car parking!

Totally agree!

Are we sure they are talking about Blue Brick cafe? I didn't think it was open today?

And can people please realise that this is not a major thoroughfare so to be honest I would feel ok walking in the road for the distance that a few tables would take up..its not like its as busy as Lordship lane.

We should be supportive of small local businesses at this time NOT reporting them

Report Costa please..they are blocking pavement on Zenora road and they can afford to pay fines.

would you say that if any one was knocked down, and would you say that again

if you were to see older couples waiting to get past.

The other reason i had to air my concern is I walk that way many a time and customers will not

move chair or legs to till they are ask , sooner or later there will be a fight if the wrong person

comes a long (hopping it never happens .

It started with tables outside with a tables for two and now four or six.

And waiting till May 16th will not change it but just get worst.

Yes, the discussion is about the Blue Brick Cafe on Fellbrigg Road, not to be confused with the Blue Mountain Vegan on North Cross Road

Interesting it?s suggested that Costa (Cafe Nero?) should be reported for tables blocking Zenoria when the pavement has in fact been widened there.

Firstly I am one half of an older couple (I think being in ones 60's counts as older)

My post was made in defence of a much loved (by me and many others) small independent business which is one of the few places in the area that you can eat well for a tenner.

People are very quick to scream "REPORT THEM" without thinking of the repercussions, fines and stress for the businesses involved by doing this.

Speak to the people who run the place ...Ask that they put clear signs requesting customers dont push tables together if thats what's causing the problem.

Also as someone who walks past pretty often I dont recall having a problem getting past unless someone had a buggy on the pavement-.

I made the comment about Cafe Nero (I wrongly put Costa because to me there coffee chains are all the same) because if you MUST hound anywhere dont hound a small business that has been unable to trade for much of last year and 4 months of this one....complain about dilveroo bikes blocking pavements outside Pizza chains by all means, and takeaways having motorbikes on the pavement Do not hound the little guys trying to make a living a providing a valuable service to locals and the staff at Kings during the Pandemic.

I'm another older person (pensioner). I love this cafe, they've done fantastic work providing meals for NHS workers, agree with NewWave, plenty of more important things to complain about for goodness sake!

Come off it, while people in their sixties are certainly older, you know full well that Garages was referring to an older and possibly less mobile demographic. People in their sixties are spring chickens!

Don't really understand the 'less mobile' argument. You're either mobile enough to travel along a pavement or you're not. If you are, then surely you can just walk on the other side of the road? The tables are not blocking both pavements. It's a quiet residential side street so not difficult to walk on the other side.

I'm with Redjam. No-one is going to get knocked down. It's a lovely neighbourhood venue and it's nice to see folk quietly enjoying life.
