edresident
Hi - a member of my family is profoundly disabled and I am looking for somewhere locally that we could take them for a meal or drink. The main need is a really great disabled loo (easier said than done), lots of space, ramps etc. We have found that so many places that say they accommodate wheelchairs are actually tricky to manage. We've been to some that have steps (?), really grim toilets and doors so narrow that you can't get a wheelchair through. Any thoughts would be really welcome.x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28396-disabled-friendly/ Share on other sites
kristymac1
The plough has good facilities, ramp up to the front door and a decent, spacious disabled, loo. You can get access to the garden if from outside - Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28396-disabled-friendly/#findComment-610544 Share on other sites

Fly
I'd be keen to know to as we're in the same boat. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28396-disabled-friendly/#findComment-610610 Share on other sites
first mate
It strikes me that there needs to be some kind of good guide to eateries and entertainment facilities with good disabled access. It's almost unthinkable that something like this does not already exist, but if it doesn't there's a definite need. landett
Franklins has a ramp into the restaurant and a loo that can be accessed from the restaurant on one level but the space itself inside the loo is very tight. They are lovely in there though and very keen to help which makes all the difference. I too would be keen for anymore local suggestions as we are also in the same position. StraferJack
Koz has plenty of room in the restaurant and great food - but not sure where the disabled toilet is - def worth checking outThe Plough is very accessible but the food is miserable and not worth half the money Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28396-disabled-friendly/#findComment-610698 Share on other sites
dandy
The Alleynes Head has good access to their Restaraunt section where the disabled loo is. The food is reasonably priced and a reasonable standard. Beer and wine is probably cheapest in Dulwich. Been there a few times recently for Sunday Lunch with a disabled person. Very attentive and freindly staff for my disabled Mother in Law. Pugwash
if you are going for a lunch time meal during the week, the Bread of Life cafe in Christ Church has a very big disanledloo. There is a guide for disabled people re access etc - I think it is called Disabled London - I know I found something via google. EJTH
Have you tried The Dish and the Spoon 61 Cheltenham Rd, SE15 3AF, other side of the park? Nice new coffee house doing good coffee, tea, home made cakes and savouries, sandwiches. Also stock a large selection of deli items to buy. Big roomy space. jcw101
The Dish and the Spoon is nice but no accessible toilet unfortunately! The Gardens has lots of space and a good, large toilet, haven't eaten in there for a while but do Sunday roasts still I think. Our daughter uses an electric wheelchair, we find so many places have the ramps and loos but are not spacious enough inside to actually move around! edresident
Thank you so much for all the replies. jcw101 - I couldn't agree with you more about the lack of spacious loos! We need to transfer him from the wheelchair on to the loo which takes 2 people, so the cubicle needs to be massive. Rarely have we found anywhere suitable and it becomes so stressful to try and make it work. I will definitely look up the Disabled London info.x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28396-disabled-friendly/#findComment-610855 Share on other sites

Ali56
Yes try Rocca in Dulwich Village.I have MS and use a wheelchair and Rocca is accessible and the disabled toilet is large. The only problem with Rocca is it can be very noisy! legalbeagle
Think Cafe Rouge in Dulwich Village would work too. Street level entry, one small step up to tables which I'm sure a chair could manage, v large disabled loo.
