notimpressed is our "new" troll.

I constantly wonder why people don't realise that it's not that places like Franklins are expensive. It's more that other places are outrageously cheap and have allowed people to believe incorrectly that their prices are fair to the planet and everyone in the chain.

Very sorry to hear this news - wish the staff much luck.

Very well put..

I have Never understood Franklins 'Farm' Shop

They sold Misshapen inferior produce.

Nothing at all wrong with Misshapen vegetables and the like..

BUT - You can buy a Tonne of so called Misshapen vegetables for 'Two Bob' from Farms

who cannot sell them to Supermarkets,

and then to sell them at Twice / Three times the price of Perfect local supermarket Produce

seems insane to me.

Recently they were selling shrivelled up 'Manky' Oranges for a ridiculous price

that were worse worse than ones I had thrown away.

You can Fool Some of the people some of the time

BUT you cannot Fool All of the People All of the time.

I'm Baking Bread at the moment. Not Sourdoug ..

Do not have enough time to Autolyse and 4hr + 4hr Rise time.

Just making Caraway Seeded White / Wholemeal Loaf.

Foxy, for someone who objected so much to what was on sale at Franklin's, you sure seem to have an encyclopedic knowledge of their stock and prices

Did you just go in to look and moan or actually support a local business by shopping there ?

Much more complicated than that..

Apart from the prices and quality of the Produce

I never used the Franklins Restaurant. I believe they once had Foie Gras on their Menu

I avoid any place that sells Foie Gras

I only ever drank in the Franklins Bar when meeting up with people when the Curry Club was running.

I support many Local Businesses..

..but do not look for the most expensive places so I can Boast about it on here.

Good grief... the local business and independents make East Dulwich and Lordship Lane a thriving place to live, you don't have to shop in these places. Personally I'm sad to see it go, I was sad to see the indy veg shop on Northcross go as well.

You had better move chum, East Dulwich is full of people who use the word 'bourgeois' which makes the place, um, bourgeois.

    • Do you believe this is actually going to happen?!   Demolition was supposed to start in the summer but the Labour government have pulled the plug. Even Labour councillors have had to begin petitioning the government to keep the project alive. https://www.southwarklabour.com/2025/10/03/labour-councillors-launch-petition-for-peckham-rye-station-upgrade/ It's dead in the water surely?
    • Yep CRP Dave. It reminded me of Jess Phillips a couple of weeks ago, when the grooming gangs enquiry started going tits up.  It's not very statesman-like to lose your shit like that in the chamber. It's one unedifying display after another.
    • no need to be snipey mulumbo - just trying to understand what you want to achieve - if you have what you need great - no need to be ungrateful or unkind
    • He should be. His behaviour has been appalling. Refusing to comply with a Speaker's request to come back to the HoC and explain himself shows utter contempt to parliament and the electorate. If he had any any integrity he would resign. Nothing to do with the prisoner, but all to do with his arrogance and contempt. This Labour party don't have any integrity at all though. We are two weeks away from the Chancellor of the Exchequer breaking a fundamental manifesto commitment. Breaking promises like demeans the entire contract between voters and MPs. If she doesn't resign for breaking those promises (she won't) then all manifesto promises going forward have to also be treated as lies, not worth the paper they are written on.  She should have already resigned herself for the breaking the law over her failure to register as a landlord. They are an absolute disgrace. And whilst all this farce plays out in Downing St where the fuck is the Prime Minister? Nowhere to be seen, unanswerable to the public about this disgraceful shambles.
