I handed the wallet into the police station on Lordship Lane, after spending days trying to get in touch with this guy. I tried calling his work (had his swipe card in the wallet) and had to chase them up numerous times, his banks; who proceeded to cancel his cards and then refused to call him to tell him his wallet had been found. Great personal service eh?...Left an advert on Gumtree and here too.

It had credit cards, bank cards, drivers licence, sim card, a wad of money, store cards...

It wasn't easy trying to get a hold of him. In the end, I decided to hand it in at the police station. The queue was really long and the guy there said he'd been waiting half an hour - I felt like throwing the wallet in the bin at this stage as I had an appointment elsewhere. Luckily a copper came out and I gave it to her.

If she didn't come out when she did, I probably would have destroyed the wallet and it's contents.

what gives you the right to ring up his bank and cancel cards etc, have you any idea how much trouble you,ll probably cause now, waiting to get new cards issues etc. if you had handed it in to the cops straight away it would have been in a safe place with no need for anything to be cancelled.

you probably thought you were acting with the best intentions, but i,ve never heard anything as stupid as what you have done.what has happened to plain common sense, you find a set of keys/wallet or anything else of the same ilk,you hand it into the cops end of story. and if yuriy kanishchev had any sort of gumption thats where he would have checked to see if it had been handed in or not as may have been the case.

Calm down spadetownboy, there's no need.

One lunchtime a year ago I found a handbag near the Post Office in Charing Cross. It still had money/cards etc - I think it had been dropped rather than nicked. I took it to Charing Cross Police Station, where the waiting room was standing room only. One poor woman saw my jaw hit the ground and told me she'd been there for 2 hours. I just left the bag on the counter and got out quick. I was waiting for a tap on the shoulder all the way down the road but it didn't happen.

I work for a company that believes in the whole "greed is good and lunch is for losers" ethos, so 2 hours out of my working day just ain't gonna happen. I'm on elastic every time I leave my desk.

I'm sure you're just trying to get a rise out of me spadeboy, but anyway... I'll explain...

I rang the bank as I figured they would have access to his phone number, I thought they would call him and let him know someone was trying to return his wallet, they asked me to provide all the details of the cards, which I did. I thought they were just making sure they had the right person, but then at the end, they said "right, we've cancelled those cards now..." I was really annoyed and said that I didn't want the cards to be cancelled, I just wanted them to tell him to contact ........ (his employer) that his employer has my phone number. The people at the bank said that it is standard procedure blah blah blah and refused to get in touch with him to let him know. I will say that in the wallet there was the means to access his bank as he had his number and code in there, and his birth date was on his drivers license.

I thought he'd have got in touch before I handed it into the station, but no such luck.

Glad it's out of my hands now...

Errr Spadetown, most people cancel all their cards within 30mins of discovering that their wallet is missing, in the full knowledge of what a pain in the arse it is. The only thing more inconvenient, however, is having all your money stolen. Do you really wait a couple of days to see if some kindly soul hands it in? Or, as I suspect, were you just being a twat for the sake of it?

Just to chuck in my two penn'orth. I found a wallet as I was getting off a bus at Crystal Palace about three years ago. As I was in a hurry I trouserd it and went about my business. In the afternoon I tried to hand it in to ED police station but when the rozzer on the desk heard I found it on a bus, he would not accept it and directed me to hand it in to LT.

I contacted one of his card suppliers, it was Barclays I believe and they passed on my phone number to the chap. He called me up thanked me kindly and asked me to send the wallet to his address and to buy a drink with the rest of the money, there was twenty quid in it.

We stayed in touch and became firm friends. He made me a full partner in his highly lucrative ice cream whoesaling business and I ended up marrying his sister who is a top model.

Funny how things turn out, isn't it?

Good thinking Giggi.

I'm thinking a working title could be The Wallet.

Perhaps with a strapline of "A random good deed led to a life of wholesale ice cream and a top model"

Perhaps that needs a little work. Let's get an Arts Council grant without delay.

In order to keep costs down let's recruit from within the EDF. I suggest Spadetownboy forthe lead role ie me. He seems a little down at the moment and could do with a boost. For the wallet loser I'm thinking Sean MG, no particular reason jjust that he strikes me as the sort who might lose a wallet. Finally for my top model wife, well Giggi if you're not busy yourself for a couple of weeks...

Bagsy me as director. It looks easy enough and I have access to a megaphone.

Come on people, let's make movies!!

    • I am doing an art course. If anyone has any large canvases (used or unused, A1 size or larger), I would be happy to take them off your hands if free or cheap! Sorry but not painted with oil, as I am mainly using acrylics and collage, and oil underneath would not work. Please PM if you have anything suitable! Thanks!
    • is anyone getting rid of one or something similar?   thanks
    • ?????? I have read through this thread and I am totally bemused. It had previously seemed to be a helpful thread, and I  don't want to send it any more off topic by responding to the last two posts by other forum members. Could someone (or admin) please PM me if they think I have stepped out of line and explain why, as recent comments seem to be directed at me and have nothing to do with the subject of the thread. This is a forum, and as in real life people are all  different, with different personalities and sensitivities, and react in different ways,  but the direction this thread has taken is very disappointing. ETA: If the two previous posters want to discuss the points they have made which aren't relevant to the subject of this thread, perhaps one or both of them could start a new thread or threads in the lounge? But probably this thread has come to an end  anyway. Thank you to the other posters for your useful information.
    • Please lmk if you have one for sale. Thanks
