Pocket
Oh - lordy this thread has made me SMILE. I went out with one of the Long Acre Flip sales 'boys' back in 1988 for a very short time, when I was a London University student. He was called Ben, and he was absolutely drop dead gorgeous (spit of David Gandy). All very loose cut, worn Levis' 501s brought in tight at the waist with a belt. Ha! Jah Lush
I remember Flip very well. Had good stuff in there, mostly I bought 501s and army type shirts and maybe a Hawaiian number too.Dicky Dirts was not so good but you could pick up a half decent pair of jeans for around a fiver I seem to remember. steveo
But you could have drinks in Soho, a prostitute and a cab home for a fiver in those days Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28989-flip-covent-garden/page/2/#findComment-616200 Share on other sites

hellosailor
I'm sure FLIP was still going into the 90s, I used to buy shirts and denim skirts, plus dyed army surplus tops there, loved it! My mum used to take me and buy stuff for herself too, you could spend hours in there. BJL
As steveo said, the owner enjoyed the "high life" and while he certainly lived it to the full, he did have a great business in the early days until stock became harder to find and more expensive. Toooo nice
I'm quite amazed that Flip remains in the memoryOf so many.I use to work there part time and laterFull time when I left school.I stood out a bit because I was a provincial 'soul boy/casual' fromGreenhithe village now ( Bluewater )amongst these wonderful Eclectic staff which included rockabillies, boy George clones and the 501 , cowboy boot wearing crew.I think the staff were as memorable as the clothing.Charles,Patrick ,rick, roberto etc . I miss them all ....good times. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28989-flip-covent-garden/page/2/#findComment-624583 Share on other sites

Toooo nice
The owner did live a ' highlife' his name was Woolf. He came from LA . He owned the apartment directly Above Flip. The 4 walls saw many debauched evenings when he was in town Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28989-flip-covent-garden/page/2/#findComment-624668 Share on other sites
