Preston93
Had a lovely meal with my partner at Lux Thai on Lordship Lane a few weeks ago. The staff were so friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. Very reasonably priced too! You have to order coconut rice if you visit, absolutely divine! missse22
just looked online and i think this is the same place as what used to be Sema Thai .... revolting food and rude staff! Hopefully they have new chefs and management? Will have to give it another try :-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29193-lux-thai/#findComment-617349 Share on other sites

HelBel65
Hi folks. Just had dinner here tonight and it was really lovely! Everywhere seemed incredibly quiet....maybe that's to be expected on a Monday. My only comment would be that they need to make it look more inviting from the outside - we'd already decided on Thai so weren't that bothered. I can see though, that it doesn't look that exciting - some different lighting and a few more authentic Thai or Asian touches would go a long way I think. Really don't think it would take much. Anyway, a lovely meal and very nice service - definitely worth supporting! spark67
Haven't been to it as Lux Thai, but had been a few times as Sema and always had a nice food, particularly loved the pad Thai. Sue
If you want Thai, The Begging Bowl in Bellenden Road is the place to go (that's probably the one you are thinking of, Miss SE22). If you can afford it, as it isn't cheap - but very good value as the food is excellent.I was never impressed with the food at Sema Thai, and the last straw was a truly revolting meal one New Year's Day, after which we never went back.I have only eaten once at Lux, one Saturday lunchtime, and was less than impressed, unfortunately. I had pad thai with tofu, and they made it with that soft silken tofu - what were they thinking? Even apart from the tofu, I didn't think it was that great. Cheap, though.Personally I'd rather have one delicious Thai meal at The Begging Bowl than two or three at Lux (or the Thai Corner Cafe, which I also gave up on years ago). HelBel65
OK fair enough - I enjoyed it and thought it was worth mentioning. It's good that we have a Thai on LL in my view, withing staggering distance ;-) which BB isn't for us - though have heard great things about it. Sue
Would be a dull old world if we all had the same opinions about everything - and not much discussion on the forum :)ETA: And my OH was perfectly happy with his meal at Lux. But then he didn't have the tofu :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29193-lux-thai/#findComment-653137 Share on other sites
missse22
I guess where I've been to Thailand several times I know what good Thainfood should taste like, last few times I've found even Thai corner cafe has gone down hill. Sue I've never been to this Begging bowl but will defiantly ive it a try!! My favourite Thai is Su-Thai on Cold Harbour Lane!! Shitty location so they have to work hard to get a good name for them selves. Sue
If you've been to Thailand then you will immediately recognise the authenticity of the Begging Bowl food :)Having said that, although it all tastes Thai, not all the ingredients are necessarily Thai - they had sorrel, samphire and razor clams on the menu when I was there :))Although, eating in a country doesn't necessarily mean good food. I was very disappointed with most of the food I had in India - bland and aimed at tourists who wanted food which didn't taste of anything much. Must have eaten in the wrong places, obviously. missse22
When it comes to eating abroad I always eat where the locals eat :) same in England for Indian food, well when I grew up in balham we used to eat out in tooting, if you see lots of indian people in there then it must be good food!! Lucky you going to India though .... I loooove the indian sweets lol Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29193-lux-thai/#findComment-663120 Share on other sites
Minitoots
Lux (ex Sema) has been going for over 20 years on Lordship Lane. It's a family run business and they are always friendly when we go there. Food is not expensive. Give it a try!! Jeremy
Had lunch there today... its handy for a cheap meal, but the food is way too bland. Completely different price bracket to begging bowl though. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29193-lux-thai/#findComment-716847 Share on other sites
missse22
Bland is the one word that summed up the experience I had there, enough to put me off for life. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29193-lux-thai/#findComment-716921 Share on other sites
