karen104 Posted February 28, 2013 Share Posted February 28, 2013 I agree and would add that in law there is no such thing as an intern. People are either workers or volunteers. If an employer requires you to turn up at a time specified by them and do tasks that they are directing you to do then you are a worker and entitled to be paid the minimum wage. If you can choose when you want to offer your services you are a volunteer. Volunteer status would never apply to a commercial business even if the worker were choosing when they turn up and what they do.
