  1. Just to clarify the gas in the oven works well and it can be lit with a flame but the electric starter is broken. We have a problem that gas engineers don’t do electrics and electricians don’t touch gas ovens Any ideas who could help us find a person who could fix for my relative who is housebound.
  2. Also highly recommend Alfie. He came around and help us with some heavy lifting and removing old rubbish. Excellent communication, good rates and reliable. I will be using again.
  3. The situation as a whole isn't funny but that article is (and I say this as someone who is unhealthily obsessed with their cats and quite concerned about their safety now, hence the constant checking of this thread).
  4. Do you think a Vet would scan it to check for a microchip? Means its owner would at least know what had happened to it.
  5. I keep meaning to come on here to recommend Frank. We used him twice a few weeks ago, and were really impressed by how reliable and helpful he was. He fitted us in at the last minute, and we had a particularly tricky job with a very heavy item that he helped us with the last time. He was well prepared (had some tools with him and helped us take it apart a bit, as well as lending my husband some gloves!) and didn't complain at all about shifting it up and down stairs. Really nice guy and a great service.
  6. Can echo the recommendations for Le Querce (particularly enjoy trying their unusual ice cream flavours when I go there!), Mamma Dough and Babur. Had a great meal at The Orchard near Brockley station a couple of months ago. There's also the Honor Oak pub which opened last summer, haven't been there in the evening but had a nice Sunday roast there a while back.
  7. Probably unlikely as he's a mix and this is in Honor Oak but someone spotted a Siamese sitting by the train tracks the other day on the SE23 forum: http://www.se23.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=11763
  8. Sounds a bit strange but I've read online that if the paint is water based (I think) then making up a batch of fairly thick porridge and then plastering that over it and leaving it covered with cling film for a couple of days can often work well. Planning on trying it myself some point soonish.
  9. I've been told wet and dry sanding paper works.
  10. We are moving house and have a couple of heavy white goods which we need to bring down from our third floor flat into a van. My husband has a slipped disc and can't do any heavy lifting. Can anyone recommend 2 people who could do this. It will probably take about an hour and just needs to be taken down the stairs into a van on the street. We'd be looking to do this any time before midday on Sunday (or possibly Monday) PM me if interested and I'll send you my mobile number
  11. You'll also have the cinema a short bus journey down the road once it opens.
  12. Is this something you need to organise a large group to do (eg book one of the packages on the website) or can just one or two of you turn up and have a go?
  13. Wow, I wondered if it might have hit a house it was so close. How scary that must have been for them!
  14. Do you know how they stole her purse? Did they just grab it off her on the doorstep or did she invite them in/they forced their way in and stole it?
  15. I read a review article which said they had something like 30 shops in Japan?! Not sure if this is actually true but they're doing pretty well if so. I used to see Miss Hope and Mr Greenwood in the North Cross Road shop quite a lot when it first opened but haven't been in ages - do they still serve customers in there?
  16. I would also highly recommend Steve. After discussion gave a very reasonable quote for cutting the hedge and took the time to do it exactly as needed. He was reliable and quick to respond by email and phone. Will use again
  17. I've given up going there now because I've had terrible service nearly every time I've gone, as have a lot of other people on this previous thread: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1223353,1223353#msg-1223353 I've also found that the food can be really variable.
  18. Thought it was the other Le C place we weren't supposed to mention but have just checked the Business section rules and seen it is actually Le Chardon we're not allowed to mention. Oops. Guessing this thread will have to be deleted unless everyone edits the name out of their posts.
  19. I've given up on Le Chardon because I've had laughingly bad service every time I've been there. The last time was the final straw when two friends who were both fans of liver ordered the same dish. One got a perfectly fine piece of meat, the other one couldn't eat it because it was so gristly and tough (and this was someone who really isn't fussy). When we were asked if everything was OK my friend said unfortunately it wasn't and the meat was too tough to eat only to be told "one in two pieces of liver is always like that, what can you do?". A suggestion as to what you can do would be not serve it to a customer paying ?16 for it. I've actually found the branch in Clapham to be much better (although the service is pretty slow so only go if you've got time for a long leisurely dinner and don't mind massive gaps between courses).

i*Rate - they do actually have a veggie main: King oyster mushrooms, celeriac puree, gnocchi ?17.50. To give them credit one vegetarian option out of five mains isn't too bad. Still think it's overpriced though!

From looking at menus they're more expensive than the Crooked Well and Franklins. At over ?18 for a main and ?7 for a dessert I can't see myself going there. But guess they've worked out that East Dulwich has enough people who can afford (and want to pay) these sorts of prices for a local gastropub for them to make a success of it.
  22. I hope this doesn't come across as rude as it's not meant to be, but are you from the UK? The reason I ask is because my experience is that it's more unusual to be religious than not. I've lived in ED all my life and throughout my school life those with an obvious religious affiliation (ie actually living by religious beliefs/attending a place of worship regularly) were in the definite minority rather than the majority, so except for the choice of school issue I wouldn't have thought any of the other things you raise would be a problem at all.
  23. Is 4 hours the most people need for a park visit then? That's the bit I most object to. I don't go to the park that regularly (probably once a month) but I haven't ever noticed dangerous/obstructive parking. Do you know how people can give their views on this?
  24. For some reason when you google 'flying pig east dulwich menu' a side bar from google pops up saying it has 21 reviews and a rating of 4.4 stars - if you go through the reviews it looks like somehow it's got mixed up with a pub in Leytonatone. You might want to see if you can fix that somehow! Really looking forward to some good pulled pork.
