Not much choice here I spose - the el paso one is a bit rough, but does big cocktails - I am no tkeen of peas in my fajitas to be honest - sort of scares me a bit - OK if you ant a good feed with plenty of carbs and cannot face the shrieking cackling masses in the other resturants and bars

although if you want authentic Mex food, then you need to go to the mean streets of brixton - the Dogstar has some on the best ive tasted in london....Mmmmmmm - seriously good.....just make sure you get an armed escort to your Humvee if you want to get out of Brix alive....

Yeah this is a tough one. My wife is American, so has pretty demanding tastes in the Mexican department (a bit like us Brits and Indian food)..

After reading some ok reports here, we went to check out El Paso just for some cocktails and nachos. Despite there being loads of free tables, the guy wouldn't let us stay for just drinks and snacks. So we left, never to return...

Anyway, after a exhaustive online search a few weeks back, it turns out Mr Snorky, that you are right re: Dogstar - their mexican kitchen is the ONLY place in London I have found to recieve universal praise. Their kitchen used to be down the road at the Hobgoblin (on the edge of Bricky). Well worth a try, though I'm not too sure about their Latin Sunday Roast.. anyone tried it?

Slip of the finger adelaide?

Anyway since you've brought this thread to my attention ..... I gotta tell you all about wahaca. I'm no judge as to how authentic mexican food should taste, but this place is fresh, clean, cheap and I've enjoyed everything I've tried there. I've been several times and never been dissapoointed.

Think it won Observer cheap eats this year..

Give it a go ... I know it's not local ..

i like wahaca

the test that i tend to apply to a restaurant is 'do i want to come here again?' - and for wahaca i've been back a couple of times and will keep on going back when a bit of mexican is in order

last i heard Dogstar, sadly, was no longer serving Mexican food from El Panzon. This according to an update from the facebook page of El Panzon. El Panzon still has a stall at Camden market but that doesn't do much for those of us in South London, unless he finds another pub to set up kitchen in.

NOoo - that is so sad. El Panzon was perfect for food before or after cinema in Brixton - much better than waiting ages for service for Ritzy Pizzas. There is always speedy noodle in Brixton I suppose. Not Mexican though. Boo.

There is a good little shop on a pedestrian road off Goodge St now though (the Starbucks). Again, not local but it does ok-priced burritos that are very good. Busy at lunch times. Last time I was there an odd break when they are closed between lunch ending around and dinner starting at 7 and they didn't have a license (yet).
