Feel free to tell the Somali ladies changing into their burkinis in the communal changing rooms at Camberwell Leisure Centre for the women-only swim session that they need to accept male-bodied people into that space. That's what Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens want.

Feel free to tell young girls that they need to accept male-bodied children into their toilets and changing rooms. That's what Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens want.

Feel free to tell women escaping male violence using local refuges that they need to accept male-bodied people into that space. That's what Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens want.

Feel free to tell women in hospital that they need to accept male-bodied people into single-sex wards. That's what Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens want.

Your attempts to shut women up by shouting 'transphobia' are wearing thin. Misogyny is no longer a vote-winner either. (I'm using male-bodied because some fragile, usually male, EDFers don't like plain English. Of course, male-bodied people are always in point of fact men.)

All of these are local council issues.

I always get a postal vote. I have on occasions returned it to a polling station.

I have had general bumph, a more detailed leaflet naming the candidates and a visit from Labour. I have received general bumph from the Lib Dems but nothing telling me who their candidates are and no visit. If any other party is fielding candidates, I don?t know about them.

Following up on my previous comment re 'paper candidates' - has anyone actually been canvassed by Lib Dem candidates in Goose Green ward?

Suspect that the majority of those thinking of voting for them either do so at a national level or are doing so on the basis of the work James Barber put in (who was an excellent local councillor and someone I voted for based on his personal effectiveness in the past).

This time I haven't had anything from the Lib Dems locally and it doesn't feel like they're putting up credible candidates in Goose Green who actually want to be councillors.

Interesting. Have they been out canvassing you then CPR Dave?

I've had zero flyers from them - not a single campaigning knock at the door, nothing. This is a massive change from previous local elections. It doesn't feel like they actively want to be councillors here, more that they just needed some names on the ballot.

I'm not sure any of the parties are fielding candidates parachuted in from far afield... the three Lib Dem candidates for Goose Green all seem decent enough folk, but in terms of them living locally, ie within the ward:

Clare Donachie: "Clare has around Goose Green for the last 23 years and in south London since coming here as a student in the early 90s."

Ignoring the proof-read fail - not really sure what around Goose Green means... somewhere near here maybe?

Michael Green: "Live near Goose Green" - Not in the area as such, but somewhere close by

Sophie Roach: Bio says she works somewhere locally - which in this case means Borough. No mention of where she lives

But in fairness to you Dave, these are some of the Lib Dems' stronger candidates - certainly in the south of the borough

The thing is, people who are passionate about being elected do tend to do at least a little big of door knocking /leafleting We've had absolutely nothing other than labour leaflets this time which is a huge change from previous elections. James Barber used to be out talking to people door to door, these three haven't even managed to post a pic of their faces through my door.

I've had LibDem leaflets and a visit from Raghav Parkash, who was very persuasive and frank, quite unlike the current DV councillors that I hope never to see again (I've supported Labour for nearly 50 years, as a matter of principle, and even at the last council election). I was even favourably disposed towards Clive Rates - and I never thought about the Tories as an option (not even locally, never mind nationally).

My vote will go to whoever can displace the two apparatchiks.

    • Per Cllr McAsh, as quoted above: “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution. " Is anyone au fait with the Clean Air Act 1993, and  particularly with the state of 'Smoke Control' law and practice generally?  I've just been looking  through some of it for the first time and, afaics, the civil penalties mentioned  were introduced into the Clean Air Act, at Schedule 1A, in May 2022.  So it seems that, in this particular,  it's a matter of the enforcement policy trailing well behind the legislation.  I'm not criticising that at all, but am curious.
    • Here's the part of march46's linked-to Southwark News article pertaining to Southwark Council. "Southwark Council were also contacted for a response. "Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets & Waste said: “One of Southwark’s key priorities is to create a healthy environment for our residents. “To achieve this we closely monitor legislation and measures that influence air pollution – our entire borough apart from inland waterways is designated as a Smoke Control Area, and we also offer substantial provision for electric vehicles to promote alternative fuel travel options and our Streets for People strategy. “We as a council support the work of Mums for Lungs and recognise the health and environmental impacts of domestic solid fuel burning, particularly from wood-burning appliances. “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution.  “This work is being undertaken in collaboration with other London boroughs as part of the pan-London Wood Burning Project, which aims to harmonise enforcement approaches and share best practice across the capital.” ETA: And here's a post I made a few years ago, with tangential relevance.  https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278140-early-morning-drone-flying/?do=findComment&comment=1493274
    • The solicitor is also the Executor. Big mistake, but my Aunt was very old, and this was the Covid years and shortly after so impossible to intervene and get a couple of close relatives to do this.  She had no children so this is the nephews and nieces. He is a single practitioner, and most at his age would have long since retired - there is a question over his competence Two letters have already gone essentially complaining - batted off and 'amusingly' one put the blame on us. There are five on our side, all speaking to each other, and ideally would work as a single point of contact.  But he has said that this is not allowed - we've all given approval to act on each others behalf. There are five on her late husband's side, who have not engaged with us despite the suggestion to work as a team, There is one other, who get's the lion's share, the typicical 'friend', but we are long since challenging the will. I would like to put another complaint together that he has not used modern collective communication (I expect that he is incapable) which had seriously delayed the execution of the will.   I know many in their 80s very adept with smart phones so that is not an ageist comment. The house has deteriorated very badly, with cold, damp and a serious leak.  PM me if you want to see the dreadful condition that it is now in. I would also question why if the five of us are happy to work together why all of us need to confirm in writing.             The house was lived in until Feb 23, and has been allowed to get like this.
