With my sister I am clearing my mother's house of its contents. She had a large collection of 19th and early 20th century Variety Hall posters - all nicely framed. I am trying to locate a specialist collector website and / or shop that might be interested in purchasing them. It seems a shame to just throw them away.

Any clues anyone? Help very much appreciated.

I've tried Dress Circle in Charing Cross Road and e-bay but after that - nada.

You could try emailing pics and some details to Rosebery Auctions in South Norwood. Or Bonhams do specialist poster auctions. They would tell you if they are worth consigning for sale, bearing in mind sellers premiums, and a rough valuation.

If not worth selling, perhaps the Theatre Museum might be interested in a donation, rather than throw them away?

Dealers usually keep an eagle eye on eBay, so I would think they're probably not worth much, I'm afraid.

http://archiveshub.ac.uk/features/varietyandmusichall/ -- a national museum, in Sheffield, for materials like those that I imagine your mother collected;

http://britishmusichallsociety.wordpress.com -- a blog / bulletin-board for persons interested in such materials;

why not ring the V&A, ring the Sheffield curator, and ask about venues for sale, or post to the blog with links to images?

There is a pedestrianised street just up from the National Portrait Gallery, near to one of the entrances/exits to Leicester Square that has shops that sell travel posters and the like. You could do worse than go there and have a chat with some of the owners.

But also how about contacting any individual theatres still in existence? They may well be interested in them for their foyers/collections.

    • In case anyone is renovating or stripping out an old kitchen, I am looking for a base kitchen unit or carcass to house an oven for a temporary set up kitchen.   Also looking for a run of worktop at least 180 cm long if anyone is disposing of something like this, I would be happy to collect.   thanks   Mila
    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
