It's a local shop for local people......

It?s not that unusual to ask someone who is making a big deal about creating a local, community based enterprise if they have links to the local community. I imagine he?s asking the guys if at least they already live here or was it just a case of spot the opportunity to start up a project.

What is the aim of having a locally supplied meat source by the way? Besides being local (which doesn?t mean very much) what specific provisions / requirements will be put in place to ensure quality / reduced environmental impact / good treatment of livestock (assuming these are your aims)?

Hello all,

Yes, I have lived here for more than 15 years. Sourcing meat as locally as possible is basic common sense. From an environmental point of view, we feel it is better to buy, lets say chicken from an organic farm in Kent 15 miles away, then it is to buy from a farm in, let's say, Leicestershire.. lower carbon footprint, easier to visit the farm to ensure good treatment and quality. However, the overriding aim is still to provide the highest quality product as possible, so we will obviously be flexible.

Cheers,

Nonold

    • Hi folks. A reply from Events re my questions: "Thank you for taking the time to send us this feedback.   We have an internal event debrief booked to take place on Thursday 18 July and all of the issues you have raised have been recorded and will be reviewed at this meeting. I will be able to respond fully to you after this meeting has taken place. There will also be an opportunity for local residents to attend a community debrief meeting. This is scheduled to take place at a venue close to the park w/c 22 July. This meeting will be facilitated by the GALA team, but council officers will be present also. Details will be circulated to those on the council’s stakeholder register and GALA’s stakeholder register and also to anyone who has complained about the event but does not have their contact details listed on either register.     If you have any further questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Charlie Simm         Senior Events Officer       London Borough of Southwark Email direct: [email protected]           Email general: [email protected]  Tel: 020 7525 2739" We must go to the meeting if you're invited because you made a complaint, or are on the list from being invited to the pre-Festival meetings.
    • The Ivy House, lovely as it is,  doesn't book rooms for parties any more, to the best of my knowledge, except in exceptional circumstances. Though you could ask, in case things have changed again. The Castle has a nice function room upstairs, but I have no idea if they book it out  for private parties.
    • We use Virtuo when we go away for a few days, really nice cars (Merc GLA; BMW 1) that are new and clean. They can drop off the car to your house (or street) and pick it up at the end - again, not for a single day, but we tend to go for 3/4 days. Not the cheapest but competitive and for the great cars - we like it. There is also pick-up from ncp near Guy's Hospital. Here's a £30 off referral https://tinyurl.com/virtuoED if you're interested (yes I get that too).  I recently used Zip car for a daily rental-  was more expensive than virtuo rate (though local ED pickup was a plus) - but a 70k mile clapped out MG was a pretty terrible experience - squealy breaks, no suspension, the leather'ish drivers seat threadbare on right side. Surprised any car rental company could keep vehicles on the road that long.
    • We always use Balfes and they are very good too.
