Hi Dulwich DIY

This afternoon I bought:

Brasso 3.98

WD40 3.98

Vent 3.98

Paint brush 1.25

Doorsign 2.75

Blades for scraper 3.98

Wood filler 16.98

I make that 36.90. You have debited my card for ?61.84. I will be calling in tomorrow for a refund. You only gave me a debit card receipt, not a till receipt, so please make sure you keep the till receipt. Thank you.

Just a query - how come you didn't notice at the time? I usually have an approximate idea of a total of goods purchased when shopping - whether at a deli, supermarket or corner shop, certainly enough of an idea to notice a ?25 overcharge when it's presented.

I absolutely agree with ontheedge. It seems rather unreasonable (and spiteful!) to post this thread before you've even taken up the matter with the Dulwich DIY staff. I'm sure it was nothing more than an innocent error. If they reimburse your card tomorrow then you should make it clear on the forum so not to do any further damage to their business!

Every time I have been in that shop the staff have been nothing but friendly and helpful.

The overcharging is going to be refunded - the shop say I had been charged for the previous customer's purchases as well as my own purchases.

(Thank you for your PM DulwichFox with analysis of the sums and pointing out that it looked like I had been charged for three of the items twice.)

    • I totally agree it just seems that it a thing nowadays.  It must be due to how fireworks are sold.

    • If it was limited to a couple of days a year, so we all knew, that would be fine. In the last few years (and it is a recent thing) you get random fireworks going off any time after dusk for half the year. It does more than cause problems for pets and wildlife- it can mean lasting damage and massive expense and hassle for pet owners. All because some get a buzz out of loud bangs.
    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
